I think that we just have to keep the faith that with everyone's prayers, Katie will make it. It may be a long struggle, but we can't give up hope.

Bonnie, I'm so glad to hear your sister's church is praying tonight for Katie. As someone said, the phone lines to heaven must be swamped with prayers for Katie.

Mary

I have faith that she will be fine - but the getting there is the rough part. I, too, am praying for this little angel. God bless you all. Don't let up on the prayers. Mom and Dad are included, too.

Katie must be one tough little fighter. God bless her! Please God we pray for restoration of independent breathing so she no longer has to have the vent, and then for her to get stronger and stronger.

Prayers coming your way!!

7/14 Update

7/14 Update

The most recent carepage update from Janet. Keep the prayer chains working for Katie, Janet and Don, as well as for her medical teams.

Argh! I just typed up an update and POOF! it is gone, so now this is really going to be brief. I am too tired to retype it all.

Not much new to report really anyway. As most of you know, I can ramble on for quite some time and say absolutely nothing of value. :)
Still on the roller coaster. Had to do more blood and platelets and go back up on the O2 to 100% cuz Katie's sats dipped down into the sixties when her blood pressure took a nosedive earlier today.

Dr. Bove stopped by around 6:45 PM (I am in awe of this man. I KNOW he was here late last night - past 8:30 anyway, back at 5 AM this morning and then here late again tonight.). Overall, he is pleased with her progress, considering she is/was only 24 hours out from surgery. He said these fluctuations are to be expected, are all controllable and nothing to be alarmed about. He wants to give her body several days to recover before making a pacemaker decision. He really hopes and thinks that she will go back in sinus rhythm, although she is exhibiting AV block right now, which is to be expected ina kid who has just had her common AV valve replaced.

Oh, and our nurse Ann today was fantastic........even stayed an extra four hours just so Katie could keep her one-on-one RN care. Jerked a knot in one of the fellow's posterior ends who was making a questionable call. Certainly made my day.

Okay, I know I sound like a broken record, but I am so touched at your outpouring of love and support. Do please keep the prayers up as I just know they are working.

P.S. For my valve family - Katie is sporting a brand new 25mm Carbomedics mechanical valve - don't know the model name, but will find out soon, I'm sure. Just debating now as to whether we want to purchase the extended warranty or not........heehee!

Love you guys lots. My butt-be-draggin' Janet.

((((((((((((((((Janet))))))))))))))))))))), lots of love sent your way and to "our" Katie.

Dear Janet,

I can't imagine how hard all of this must be for you and Don. It is encouraging, however, to see that Katie seems to be stabilising overall - despite the ups and downs, and that her cadio is pleased pleased with her progress. I hope that gives you some peace of mind.

Having been in Katie's situation when I was about her age (..and although my surgery wasn't as complex, I too had my share of post-op complications and reinterventions..), I doubt she will remember too much of the "bad" stuff once she is through this. It's amazing how kind our memories can be too us sometimes. I don't remember any of my time in ICU, but do have fond memories of some of the people that were there for me and I'm sure the same will be true for Katie.

I'm keeping you all in my thoughts and sending hugs to you all.

...all my best wishes coming your way....

Anna (((((((HUGS)))))) ((((((HUGS)))))) ((((((HUGS))))))

Janet,

It is good to hear Katie is hanging tough! I am praying for you, her and the rest of your family. Keeping you in my thoughts!

Went to bed a little early for me tonight and, for some reason, just woke back up and decided to check on Katie. I am considering this good news and that all our prayers are working to help Katie heal.
Janet sounds a little more like herself so I am very encouraged.
GO KATIE!!!

Very pleased to wake up to Janet's update- Knew I went to bed too early last night!:) Most happy that Dr. Bove is pleased with her progress. Go, Katie and hang in their Janet and Don, we are trying to send you all the strength we can, along with the prayers.

Checking on our Katie bright and early this morning. Glad to see that the doctor is positive about her progress and that you are managing to hold out, Janet. Many, many hugs to you and many prayers still coming Katie's way.

I spent a restless night worrying about Katie. I finally gave up and got up early so I could check; now I'm glad I did! The update is more positive, so I can only hope and pray that we're on an upward spiral.

This update just came through from Janet:

A couple of more episodes last night of blood pressure dropping and sats taking a dive into the sixties. This I don't like at all as she is still on 80% 02........they are trying not to sedate her quite as heavily as they feel this contributes to the blood pressure dropping, but she keeps waking up and gagging with that damn vent.........

Got to go get some more answers. God, I think I will start with You! I am praying that You stop the shenanigans and make my little girl better now, please!

As for the rest of y'all, please keep the prayers into the Big Guy as he doesn't really seem to be giving mine His undivided attention.

And for my fellow heart moms, if you have a post-fontan success story with sats and blood pressure dropping and heart rate jetting, now would be a wonderful time to share, even if you know I have read it before. My brain is fried. I'm gonna start wearing a name badge here soon, so I will remember my own name. :)

Courtney and Tammy, at what point did your docs decide to take down the fontan and why?

Thanks so much for listening to me vent and please do keep those prayers coming. I so hope teh next report is a good one.

Love. J.

Prayers are still coming for Katie and for Janet and Don to have the strength to survive the ups and downs. Can only imagine how fragile they must feel at this time. Janet, you are a fantastic Mom and all our prayers will be answered!

Well, this sounds no fun at all, but it also sounds like more of the same shenanigans last night's midnight post said the doc said to expect. I'm gonna keep believing, hoping, praying and wishing and Katie's little lioness body is going to be okay.

Love and strength to you.

P. J.

Got home late last night and saw the latest update on Katie first on the Carepage. Katielion - you keep fighting girl! You're doing a great job! Continuing many many thoughts and prayers.
