I was diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma and after my first Chemo I became septic from an infected Port. This led to severe sepsis and endocarditis. Sadly, no one wanted to really inform me of what was going on. The oncologist was the most honest and said the device was tested and found to be the source. One of my aortic leaflets disintegrated essentially that resulted in 2 embolic strokes and a brain abscess. The infection also invaded my shoulder. Needless to say, I was on antibiotics through home health after my 22 day stay for the severe sepsis for a long while. Eventually, I got back to Chem. Even with a discharge diagnosis of endocarditis because of poor communication I was later told I had a bicuspid valve by a V A doctor. This went on for a long time enlarging my heart because of the incorrect diagnosis. After my surgery the truth came out about the diseased Tri leaflet valve being removed. In the end, I want people to be strong and be your own best advocate don't just always trust what they tell you. Medical Errors is the third leading cause of death in America. I treated over 70,000 patients in my career as a PA working in the ER. If you can get a second nonbiased opinion always do it! Remember the hospital not trying to hurt you but lack of training and poor technique, being rushed probably led to my problem, which in the end these complications will likely kill me.

Hi and sorry to read your plight

I'll add "stubbornness and arrogance" to that list. I had an infection post surgery on OHS #3 ... I personally never felt any ill will to the hospital but it sure didn't make it feel any better.

Fortunately my infection did not pass cause endo, but 2 debridement surgeries were needed to clear the chest of infection.

I remember well how I felt at that time and so "hugs and solidarity"

PS: I was on oral antibiotics after the last debridement worked for ten years, so there's hope. Eventually however none of us gets out alive ;-)

Best Wishes
