So sorry that Joe (and therefore you as well) is having such a struggle. I'm glad that at least he is not on a vent...hopefully that means you are able to communicate.

I am thinking about both of you a lot and wishing you the very best.

He's more alert today. It's still hard to understand him, but he is making some conversation off and on. They will be working on speech and swallowing which he had trouble with.

They did get him up and standing (with lots of help and a PT belt and walker) and he took two steps to get into a chair.

Another positive blood test for bacteria. They took out his dialysis lines and PICC line and cultured the tips, no results yet. He'll get new ones tomorrow, since he cannot go without dialysis. He's on another antibiotic. The Infect. Dis. docs are terrific.

Still in ICU.

I'm so glad you post and keep us up to date. We all worry about the two of you. It sounds as though the steps are small, but they're STILL FORWARD!

You are in my prayers....I remember your motto: "NEVER GIVE IN AND NEVER GIVE UP." You are both on the same side, as is everyone here at vr, I'm sure.

I'll check again tomorrow after work.....praying for you.
