We're avid ping-pongers. (Love that made up word?) We'll bring paddles and balls if anyone's interested in playing.

I play and the table at the Users Center is not a bad one. And the cards idea sounds good to me too -- wont be a dull moment that day for sure..

Sherry & Wise,

Both great ideas. Haven't played cards or ping-pong in quite awhile but I am quite willing to make a fool of myself.

This is really shaping up to be a blast. We may be sorry it's only for 1 day.

See you soon.

Gina, you'd feel right at home with me because I always make a fool of myself when playing cards. My wife is much better than me. She can remember the cards played much better.

I'm willing to give ping-ponging a go. Don't know the rules, but if I can enjoy it, I'll give it a try. Sounds like fun.

Birding glasses

Birding glasses

If anyone owns a pair of fieldglasses or binoculars, it might be a good idea to bring them along for the canoe ride and the hike ( we will already have a bug case to keep the kids busy :) ). I am getting interested in birding around this lab, borrowing a field guide from the FNAL library...

Mary, hope you take plenty of stops along the way to stretch your legs -- wont be a problem after you get here... :)

Mary, sure hope you can make it. But we'll all understand if you can't/shouldn't. My daughter called yesterday to ask what date the mini-reunion was, so she could get the day off of work. Guess that means she plans on going with me.

I think i hid from people all my life for one reason or the other -- I feel very comfortable here with all of you, among all the issues with the heart I consider it to have the most impact on my life.

While I hope to see everyone here please take care of yourselves, since I have -- almost reluctantly even -- become quite fond of people ( family ) here ...

( as Cort would say... )
*wipes a tear surreptitiously from the corner of his eye*

I know the feeling.....

LOL! Would I say that?

*shrugs*

Maybe...maybe not ;).

Really looking forward to seeing you all. Also.....meeting those whom I have not yet had the pleasure ;)

Burair. Please let us know what we can bring. Are we doing a BBQ lunch?

We can fire up the grill around noon

Here is Gina's (geebee) suggestion about what to do:

I think each of us bringing the type of meat we want to eat to throw on the grill would be great. And then maybe some type of side dish for all to share? If we are coming from a distance, chips & dip, rolls, brownies or something similar would travel well and give us a good variety.

Besides our contribution to the grill -- we will have cheese cake but unfortunately my friend got a job in Israel and wont be around to bake for us this time -- we will try her recipe though.

For dinner: we need to choose a place. We went to a thai place in Geneva last time, Ammina thinks we should go somewhere else this time, we are having a discussion at home -- anyone want to chime in?? will probably have plenty of time to decide on the 14th anyway.

We will be there

We will be there

at 9:00 a.m. on May 14. Looking forward to meeting you Burair and friends.

Almost there ... just two weeks to go ... so:
Maps for the spring get together:

Site Map -- for those coming via I-88 the main entrance on Pine and Kirk is the one to use, the other entrance is on Batavia road, off Route 59:

I will wait for everyone at 9:00 a.m. in front of the Village Barn, Ammina will be at home in case you need directions, please let me know via e-mail or PM who to sign in at security ( and exchange phone numbers ), they need government issue id's at the entrances..

Thats great!

I'll sign you both in and I've PM'ed you my number at home -- you probably have a better set of directions from Knox, IN but google maps says its around two and a quarter hours to here.

Best,
Burair

Yes, I have directions; Google maps also. Thanks

Burair,

We will be able to get into the "back" entrance - the one close to the Candlewood - or will we need to go around to the other entrance?

As far as dinner goes - the Thai restaurant was great but might be a little small if a lot of people come. Is there a good italian restaurant/pizza place in the area? Or maybe just a local steakhouse? Just some thoughts.

Our dinner thoughts: First, whatever you guys decide is fine. Second, the Thai place sounds good. Third, any other place where you can get a salad with your meal would be helpful. However, as we said, whatever you choose is fine with us.

The Batavia road entrance is now ok for access to the Lab -- its actually not required to sign people in to visit anymore, but I will do it anyway -- need to fill out an online form, not a big hassle.

You probably have a valid point about the Thai place, there are lots of places to eat around the area so there shouldnt be a problem. Italian sounds like a good plan, also there's an appleby's and a decent diner on route 59 not far from the lab ... we dont need to make up our mind until the day I think, there are plenty of choices.

There's also a billiards place called family billiards on route 59 -- we could go there after dinner to hang out, the appleby's is not too far from there so that might be where we will default to...
