Ain't no way chicken farmin going to be light hearted. You've been around the goats too long.

We're not talking Old McDonald's farm. :pJust two chickens to keep me company and lay eggs.

Joe grew up on a small farm. His childhood job was to clean the hen house. He told me about the roosters who used to chase him and peck at him and how much the hen house smelled.

Sounds like fun, Mary!

What about free range chickens? Less time in the hen house= less mess and smell?

This thread is funny. My grand-ma had chickens and my job was to get the eggs each morning. Well, I learned early on to carry a stick to protect myself from that evil rooster. So, time passed and I came away with a strong conviction that ALL chickens need to be part of KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN! I still hate those evil smelly fowl.:(

Perhaps if you live in the country and don't mind the mice and rats running around. Preferably away from neighbors. I had this ding dong Afghani living next door who allowed his to free range all over the neighborhood!

I had a cockerel, put his tallon through my welly and constantly raped the hens.... Monsterous animal. Am no longer a frustrated would be farmer ... good luck !!

Whoa Mary.. You know what those 'free range chickens' eat...

Nope, I don't. Tell me.:p

We've got a fenced in backyard with privacy fence, so there would be no wandering unless they escaped by air. Why would they attract mice and rats?

No roosters in my future. :rolleyes:I am concerned about talons.

Mice and Rats love the feed.

Make no mistake, Hens can do as much, if not more, damage then Roosters.

I had no trouble with my Roosters, it was the hens that attacked.
