yaps - I have been so concerned for you. I know you were in the thick of a lot of it. It is such a relief to hear from you again. Thanks for letting us know.

I was also thinking that there are several members in the area of the storm and maybe we should set up one of those poll things where the question would be 'are you in the area and ok and who are you' or something along those lines.

I will be flying home tomorrow and I know the stores will be empty for us, too because the people spill over to adjoining counties. Florida and Texas are the bookends of the storm, as the Texas Gov just stated. I know gas is probably gone or going fast. It is already a nightmore for so many and will be another nightmare for everybody in the general area and change our lives considerably for some time. And those of us who were 'just missed', we need to kiss the ground and praise God because 'there, but for the grace of God............" That part just dawned on me this morning. We also need to pray for a clear rest of the season.

Amen.
I hope there's no more hurricanes this season -- anywhere. When a comment was made about the number of hurricanes FL went through last season, an official interviewed on TV last night -- don't remember if it was a governor, FEMA or what -- said the LA-MS-AL area can't withstand another hurricane.

I pray there are no more, but the fact is, lows are still spinning off the coast of Africa. We need to pray they all turn North and not continue West and then Northwest.

Yaps,

Good to see your post. From the news it will take a long time for everyone down there to recover. We send our prayers and good thoughts to all that were in Katrina's path. They say it may be months before New Orleans gets back to normal.

Answered Strawberry's post on a new thread so I won't here :( . Ross, I logged on so guess I'm still a member :D :D .

Gas

Gas

So today, we decided to drive down to next County line to buy beer.. Helen, my Alpine Village that was hit hard by tornado Monday, is still closed off. Helen is only town that sells beer, wine, ect. in our county..Tourist town..rest of county dry......so, we go down and decide to buy gas at our super Ingles..Sold out..Line at next few gas stations..Out, only premium, ect.. Saw a ratty gas station and pulled in...Luckly we filled my new car up..owner said, he had 500 gal. left and truck will not come....Tuned in CNN at 5 P.m. and saw Atlanta..Wow, gas is selling for $4.99 a gal..and only can buy 10 gal. and lines long... ..My sister called and said, go buy gas..Works for Red Cross..said the lines in her little town in S.C. was 2 blocks long.. Said, she stopped at her little grocery store and they had sold out of bread....I had said to hubby, we should take our Motorhome early this afternoon and fill her up for reserve..he laughed and said later..you may have been right..We could have our own supply..to siper out....what the heck is going on???? anyone else outside of Ga., Alabama, La. Fla, Miss. seeing this? ..Is it because of prices going up or gas depleting? We plan on staying home this long holiday weekend..but son was going to drive 1/2 way to N.C. to take my Grandson to visit his Mama . I will help him pay for gas..if he can find any? And if Grandson's mama can find any? This is crazy..Bonnie

I can't believe what this hurricane has done. It's horrible. All those people who have lost everything. And now the looters. They're going crazy.

It's going to take a long, long time to get it all cleaned up.

I worry about diseases breaking out, and possibly people who may never be rescued.

God Bless them. What a tragedy.

I believe the gas prices are mostly people trying to make a buck. The price of crude oil actually dropped a little today and yet gas prices here climbed 50 cents a gallon in 6 hours. We are paying 3.29 for regular.

Station owners seem to post really high prices and then start dropping them a little when people don't buy. However, if people do buy the prices stay up. They have us over a barrel (pun intended) because we have to drive to make a living.

Somebody needs to reign this in or we will have a major economic disaster along with this horrible natural disaster. I sure hope God is still around looking out for us.

I always thought price gouging was against the law.

We were just talking about this. I can understand that alot of the refinement of the oil happened in the gulf, but come on now, if we relied that heavily on the gulf for our supply of the Nations oil and gas, don't you think the terrorists would have hit that and not the Towers? Last I looked at a map of this nation, 3 of the 4 sides of it has ocean ports. Seems to me if one area is off limits, you use another or am I just messed up in the head like usual?

I think it's more that the oil companies are trying to force Bush to release the reserve oil immediately and I think that might be a wise choice at this particular moment, but it goes without saying, gouging is still happening and there should be laws in place to take care of that.

off the coast or Fl, Ala, Ms, La, maybe more states, we have oil rigs. They have been ruinedby the hurricane. 10% of our oil comes from these rigs. The lines have been cut off now and they are saying that's the reason for the gas hike - in other words, we need to cut back.

Yaps- I'm glad you made it through. I've been watching the Dateline coverage on NBC tonight... The devastation is just unbelievable. I am so sorry for the pain this has caused to so many. It's so horrible. :( You're all in my prayers.

What I'm trying to say..when it snows one inch in the South.Everyone goes to buy bread/milk.....Same thing going on today...The elderly are afraid that grocery store delivery trucks will not be able to bring Milk/bread.. So, local gas stations were gone..gas.. they, elderly just want to be able to go and buy their groceries....Same thing with my age 90 year old Daddy in Alabama...He is so afraid he will give out of milk....
Brother went early monday A.M..and bought his milk ..He was happy then..Even had it planned..he would take ice out of refrigerator and keep his milk cool, in case of outage in power..which he did have..Got up in the middle of night to make sure his milk was saved......Elderly are only able to survive on their milk/cereal....cookies, ect.... Daddy does have lunch meat..but craves milk.....so pray that delivery trucks can continue in the South..bonnie

My county has advised residents to stay home if possible, dangerous , , fighting and huge lines for fuel. School was to begin again Thurs, no fuel for buses , school is canceled.
Home invasions have occurred, hence the stay put with locked doors.
People who worked yesterday had a dilema of , sunset curfew, yet waiting in long lines for gas, national guard send them on...we have barely any gas in our truck, John is praying he can get some to go to work(and he works with the county!! )
Along with the shortages, come the basic inhuman element, those who prey upon the helpless, this is the most terrifying times Ive seen in my life.Yaps

We're feeling repercussions in SE Missouri. All traffic south on the Mississippi River has been closed at Cape Girardeau and barges are stacked up all the way back to St. Louis.
Gasoline wholesalers have run out of gasoline in the centers that supply Cape. The possibility of no gas has been a shock. We expected the price hike, but not this.
Katrina has had a ripple effect greater than any of us expected.

I say...shoot them and be done with it.
Sadly, through their own devices, this is exactly what is going to happen. What bothers me is, more innocents are going to get killed just because of the screwups running around.
