mechanical vs tissue aortic valve replacement

It's great/essential to have a backup plan, but just wanted to say good luck with that repair! Our backup at this point is the Ross. If you decide to go with that, be sure your surgeon is very experienced in it. All the best of luck to your son!

    meeting with cardiologist

Leine--Thanks for making my day by saying that you stayed for a decade at mod. regurg! Although in the three years we have been monitoring my son's heart issues he has gone up from mod. to mod./severe AV regurg, we are still hoping to hold out for that decade at least (monitoring carefully, of...

    meeting with cardiologist

For what it's worth, your diagnosis and numbers are very similar to those of my son. We are confident about staying in waiting mode based on the opinions of both his cardiologist and geneticist. Good luck!

A couple of really stupid questions for you

Improvement in Rate of Enlargement Improvement in Rate of Enlargement I have never heard of aortic regurgitation improving, but I'd like to put in a plug for ACE Inhibitors taken for the purpose slowing the enlargement of the heart as a result of the regurgitation. My growing son (almost 15...

    New AHA guidelines for endocarditis

Wow. Thanks Nancy. This is going to take some thought. Antibiotics are not without their downside...I strongly suspect the penicillin that Matt took for two dentist visits to be implicated in his year and a half of GERD (thankfully no longer a problem). I'm also undecided at this point and...

    another occular migraine post (sorry)

I just have to recommend a book here... Following its instructions, my son and I both have our migraines under control. In Matt's case an almost total cure (he gets the occular only as well as with the painful kind) and in mine about an 90% cure with advil easily controling the remaining...

    Brisk Walking/Mitral Regurg....

My son's instructions--for mod. to severe aortic valve regurg.--are that aerobic exercise is fine, but to stop before "the point of maximum exertion." And of course no weight-lifting or isometric exercise of any kind.

Yearly echo--AV regurg. increased to mod./severe

Thanks Janet. I was hoping you'd see this and weigh in. Congratulations on Katie's moving to six-month echos. Now THAT is moving in the right direction! Matt's symptoms, though mild, are relatively new and are concerning me more from the gut level than the big word "severe." That's a good...
