How far from your area?

The only bad weekend for me is the 1st date. We'll be retrieving our daughter from college.

I highly encourage any and all within range to come. Burair is Host Extroardinaire and from what we saw in the cold of Fall, I imagine Fermilab will be lovely in May. They have a bison herd!
Karlynn,
How far is it to the reunion from Schuamburg? I might be visiting the friend
who had the fox puppies in his backyard. Doesn't look like Ohio(ROSS) will ever have a reunion, so I could maybe take this in when I visit my friend.
That is of course if someone from Illinois will let in two Buckeyes ;)

Sherry,

If I remember correctly, Kent mentioned that he will be unable to join us that day..... I met him, too, when the acha group got together a few months ago in Schaumburg for dinner. I agree with your assessment :).

RCB,

I'd say Batavia is less than an hour from Schaumburg. Schaumburg to Elgin (where I am) is a half hour; Elgin to Batavia is a half hour, but the 3 towns sit in a triangle of sorts:
Elgin > Schauburg
V
Batavia

Bob,

2 Buckeyes from southern Ohio will be there again so make it 4. :D :D

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks Knightfan :) I did discover the map when I read the whole thread.
I think I can take Schaumburg road out to 59 and then south to the lab- easy if no traffic

Gina,
If there are 4 Buckeyes there, we may kick their butts again :D

*nods*

That sounds like a good plan. Key phrase, of course ... "if no traffic" ... which, along that route...there is always traffic :(. Which is why I avoid the "congested" areas...and drive my "baby girls" along the proverbial country roads ;).

PAPPAHAPPYSTAR,

I am interested in going to Fermilab, May 14th is good for me.

Excellent! Looking forward to seeing you. If you need any information please e-mail me: burair.kothari at gmail.com. As the date gets closer we can plan what to do and when. Keep an eye on this thread!

Regards,
Burair

Can everyone that is coming respond if you need to stay overnight and need accomodations? That way we can determine how many bedrooms are needed. If there is not enough housing space in the Fermilab Village, we can probably negotiate some rates in the nearby hotel community.

Here is a list of nearby hotels:

http://www.fnal.gov/pub/forphysicists/users/hotels.html

I will talk with the housing people, I dont think they would normally allow people not connected with the lab to stay in the village, but I may be able to milk my valve situation for some concessions here...

It would be good to have an idea of the number of people needing accomodations though, the houses in the village have one large bedroom with a queen sized double bed, the other two bedrooms are smaller with just one twin sized bed each. There is a six bedroom house somewhere but that probably wont be empty, there are also four bedroom units, will find out on monday....

It's less than an hour. For those of us in the Chicago area, that's no driving time what-so-ever. My guess is 45 minutes.

Hope you can make it!

Unfortunately it looks like I wont be able to get a house in the village for our get-together, there is a conference on the same weekend and they will be booked out for houses. She did say she would let me know if they have openings in case of cancellations. It would have been a fun place to sit and chat.

Here is some info on local hotels: http://lss.fnal.gov/travelinfo/hotels.html

As Gina mentioned maybe we could work out a group rate with a local hotel if we have an idea of how many are coming.

There is going to be a Habitat restoration drive that day:

May 14, 2005 - Habitat Restoration meets from 9:00 a.m. to noon to clear away non-native brush to encourage native woodland flowers and trees to grow. Meet at the Lederman Center parking lot.

Perhaps we'll be able to see this ( or join it ) when we go on our trail walk.

Burair

Burair,

No worries, I am sure we can work out hotel rates.

Everyone that is coming - please let us know ASAP if you need a room. I will take care of finding a hotel that will give us a special rate but they usually need 2 or 3 weeks notice and we are coming up on that very fast.

You can PM if you want.

Thanks

Hi, Burair,
Did you mention a time frame on Saturday? We were thinking of staying in Indy friday night and then driving on up Saturday morning or afternoon, whenever things would get rolling.

Also, Gina, count us in for a room on Saturday night.

Right now I am leaning towards Candlewood Suites. Chris & I stayed there the last time and it was very nice although there is no restaurant. It is an all suites hotel with kitchen so you can bring snacks & stuff for the room.

They are running a special for $69 but I think I might be able to get it a little lower if we have more than 5 rooms. So, if you need a room, let me know ASAP so I can negotiate.

Sherry - I have you on my list. Are you OK with this type of hotel? It is very close to Fermilab.

Judging from the lineup of activities, I'd say the earlier you arrive on Saturday the better....

*shrugs*

But, I'm not sure....

*sighs*

An example of how quickly my schedule is filling up for this year ... I just found out last night that the bachelor party for my sister's fiance will be that Saturday evening...and, since I'm in the wedding party, I'm expected to attend. I told him I may end up having to join them "in progress"...depending on what all we end up doing Saturday and what time the party starts ;).

I was thinking to start on the trail hike at 9:00 a.m. followed by a lab tour then start the barbecue at noon to late afternoon and go canoeing until reasonably dark then Users Center, pool then dinner and more pool.

Sounds like a good schedule.... Tho, is it possible to move up the "pool times" to earlier in the day...since I'll have to leave in the evening?

Just curious...no worries either way :).

Shall I ask for the Users Center from 4:00 p.m.? We can even split up between canoeing and pool...

I think having the user's center from 4PM would be great. That way, if someone doesn't want to canoe, there is still a place to hang out.
