Hmm... women posting photos of scars could be interesting -- our daughter had a right mini thorcotomy. I am willing to bet she will NOT post her scar photo.

Here I am at 6 months post op. You can hardly see the scar at this point.

I had to study the picture for a looooooooooooooooooong time to decide if I agreed with your assessment. :D :D :D :D
You're right; I hardly noticed it at all! :p :p :p

Yeah -- I've tried for days to get this dumb pic uploaded and either nothing happened, or it was like a rainbow. If I have to live with this 8 or 9", 1/2 keloid scar for the rest of my life, I want to be proud of it.

Jeff P, do you think the scar treatment you're using can help the keloid, or is it too late? I also happen to have a couple of drainage scars, a g-tube scar, and a gallbladder scar. As somebody said earlier, it's better than the alternative. :D :D :D

I've had folks with scars years old flatten, lighten and soften with the silicone sheeting. Have only used it on thin skin areas such as hands, feet, arms, legs. No experience with thicker abdominal and thoracic skin, but I'm playing ginea pig here. I'll let everyone know how it does over the comming months. Maybe it will be be the cause of the scar improving, maybe it will get better on its own. So long as it does, I'll be happy. (My scars looks very much like yours, the sternal scar is more hypertrophic at the lower half than the upper part.)

Thought I would try to post an earier picture of his scar. This was from 7/14 so 15 days post op. He still had the steri strips on though. here goes...

Need more girly scars

Need more girly scars

We need more girly scars! Definitely no correlation between length of scar size and height - I am 6'1 and my scar is 2.5 inches. It keloided, so last year, after getting my wires removed, we zapped it with a bit of radiation. So this scar is almost a year old.

Great! 2.5"! that's the way to go.... these 7" models are just way too large! Next time I go in for OHS, I'm going to request one of these compact models! (he,he,he)

Feeling brave...

Feeling brave...

I'm not sure if this will work, but if it does...I hope my mom doesn't kill me. :D Here is a picture of my scar at about 2.5 months post-op. I'm 5'6 and the scar is about 3.5 inches.

Looks great! Mine is about the same size but only a month old... coming along ok I guess... the doctor told me to make sure to protect it from sun for a year...

PS to liza... thanks for being brave... there is safety in numbers and it makes everyone feel more normal? to see that they are not alone. Makes me feel less like damaged goods. I went to the car wash the other day. I could not vacuum my own car mats yet. The young man (18 or so years old) asked me why not... I said it was because I was three weeks out of OHS. He said "I feel your pain and lifted up his shirt to reveal a scar like mine! I felt so much better to think I was not some sickly guy but just someone on the mend and in good company.

I think this is one of the neatest posts I've seen in a while!

You'll feel better about the whole thing as you recover old and find new energy reserves. Nice experience .... but were you driving at three weeks??

Yes... My surgeon is a bit, shall we say, agressive when it comes to getting back on the proverbial horse. In hind sight it was OK I guess but there was discomfort making the big turns or parking.

for some reason... it did not work... I had the same problem with mine. Turned out that my image size was too big. I think it needs to be less than 300X400 pixels. i am no expert here but that is what fixed it for me... good luck

The talk of scar healing made me perform a search for scars and I found this one complete with photos.

I took my camera upstairs and a roll of sticky tape and took a couple of photos of mine 7 and a half months on. My scar is 9 and a half inches plus the ones underneath, I am 5 foot 2 inches tall.
