Hi and aint she a beauty. I would much rather make up some freaky story to tell like this is a scar from a gang fight I was in while livin it up in my younger days.:D
6 inches long and still a bit tender at the bottom.

Thank You

Thank You

THANK YOU, THANK YOU to everyone who has shown his/her scar. I don?t have a digital camera and I wouldn?t have the slightest idea how to download the picture either but seeing other people?s scar has given me a lot of comfort. I had nothing to compare mine to and been wondering whether everything is normal or not

I?m now 6 months since my mitral valve repair. My scar is about 7" long. It is still quite deep red and itches at time. It?s about 1/4" wide at the end (not very pretty, I may say) At times the skin feel very tight and almost like there is something ?pinching?it. When I?m sitting for a period of time, I have to move around my shoulders to make it comfortable
Have any of you similar symptoms? Does this sound normal to you?

When I get home I will show my scar after 3-1/2 years, I have a 3 inch long part of the scar where it is weird looking that will require plastic surgery.

Maka, are you using Vit E oil on your scar? I found that on days that I forgot to use it I also had the pinching and pulling and general irritation. I used it daily for about a year.

With the vitamin E...or other topical treatments, how long after surgery do you start to apply?

And, does everyone use the pellets and sit there breaking them open or opt for the bottle of the oil?

I recall reading something about perfumes in the bottle, and I heard something about the pellets being stronger. Anyone ese heard that about the pellets vs. bottle?

I used the really thick oil - in a bottle - unscented with no artificial stuff. Others used the Vit E capsules and prick them with a pin. You don't want perfumes or preservatives in them, so if you can't find the good, expensive thick stuff use the caps.

Also - be sure to wear an unshirt or something under your good clothes - that oil will permeate and ruin anything. But it also stays on your skin (and anything else it touches) until you soap it off.

Thanks...I'll get some vit E pills. I just started using Neosporin Scar Solution - Silicone Scar Sheets and it seems to help. The scar does not bother me as much when I'm using the sheets but I started using them just a couple of days ago
Has anyone used them? they claim to "significantly improve the appearance of existing scars"

Thick Scar

Thick Scar

I am about 7 months post-op. My scar is thick at the top and thick at the bottom and thin in the middle between my breasts. Still pretty pink and thick. Will it get thinner. Will some suntan help it? BECCA

As long as it's still somewhat inflamed you DON'T want to get it in the sun. It takes the top & bottom longer to heal than the rest - don't know why.

Becca:

My incision was thicker toward the bottom for quite a long time. Recently, I noticed that the thickened scar tissue has become much softer now and seemed to be similar to the rest of my scar.
I encountered this twice before, when I had jaw reduction surgery as a high school senior and in 1980 when I had a bilateral bunionectomy.

I did not use anything on any of these incisions.
