I was 58 when I had surgery nearly 4 years ago, and I guess I can thank my surgeon for strongly steering me towards a mechanical valve. Him told “given you are in very good health for your age, if you select tissue, I will see you again” I am also grateful to the board members here who helped me get passed my fear of warfarin. It really is not big deal.

This is undisputed common knowledge at this point. What we are left with is lifestyle choices - i don't want to tick like a bomb, i *hate* warfarin....that's the huddle to get over lol
I have not heard my mech. valve tick since about 3-4 months after implant. I can't recall ANY material lifestyle changes I've had to make. Warfarin, to me, is just another pill I take......but one thing is becoming clear, my 57 year old valve WILL last my lifetime......at least that's what my cardio tells me. He is probably correct since I am now 89 with a body that's wearing out......but the valve is still going strong.

Your REAL hurdle is "how many times do you want to risk OHS with multiple tissue valves?):confused:
