hey @le19555 , I had a look over at the resilia site

https://www.rbhh-specialistcare.co....t-patients-benefit-new-inspiris-resilia-valve
very interesting and for anyone over 50 well worth a look (assuming you fully trust the sales lines, none of which seem unrealistic at all)

"This new valve is an absolute game-changer because it lasts three times as long as conventional valves."
...The valve is estimated to last 30 years; reducing the chance of patients requiring additional operation in later years.

I myself will not be around to know. but that sort of implies that "conventional valves only last 10 ... interesting.

The procedure
In total the surgery takes up-to two hours.

wow ... so they say up to when the accepted figure is between 2 and 4 ... assuming everything goes right. So to me this suggests they might be being a bit optimistic with the sales pitch rather than offering "just the facts ma'am"

Thank god its friday

Is very popular the believe that Russian Science is less, but it would be good to know who was first to send a Satelite to space ?, Mscow, who gave Mao the means and knowledge to build a Nuke?, Nikita....etc

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply Russian Science is less. The group that did the research is relatively unknown on this forum. In addition, it is not a consensus opinion. Every few years groups of experts get together and put out a consensus opinion on the state of a specific topic, heart valves, arthritis, etc. This type of paper is built on research (such as the Siberian paper) but also supported by a consensus among experts that the presented path is the best. A single paper doesn't make it a fact to guide action it is a starting point for other researchers and the field to build a common belief.

I love the way every argument you raise here is based on errors or misconceptions

Those in favor of mechanical valves say they chose them because they can’t count on what’s available in the future regarding tissue valves, such as improved TAVR.

correct ... and we know that you don't have an Oracle either. We also are conservative in preferring to go with what is known than bet the farm on what may be. Well historically each of the successive iterations of tissue valves have shown mild to meagre improvement despite being billed as "Godzilla vs Bambi"

They only can count on what they know now.

yes, I know I have this, and I know what risk means. I am not a man of faith or belief, glass of Kool-Aid for you?

Well you also have no way of knowing how blood thinners are going to work with your body

it may come as a shock to you but over the last 50 years we have a pretty good idea exactly how it will work, who it won't work for and why. <hammerHorrorOrganMusic> Blood Thinners </hammerHorrorOrganMusic> 🧛‍♂️💉 are well understood, and have decades of intensive and extensive research surrounding them; particularly warfarin. AntiCoagulation Therapy is something that you may even find yourself on when you get a tissue prosthesis (please do post that when it happens to you) or even as you age find a propensity for stroke or suffer DVT (if we ever get to fly again).

nor if the noise of the valve will drive you bananas.

in the main studies have shown that people on them are
  • more satisfied
  • adjust to the new experience (you may find that adjusting to changes in life is a good practice, or you'll end up bitter that you got old and lost your hearing, sight, strength ... hair)
  • actually live longer

Or the fact that mechanical valves are much more susceptible to bacterial infection.

Which I've already shown is not the case either.

Frankly I have no problem with whatever you pick, but remember
Some person asked this question and the purpose of this place is to answer questions NOT to fight with other peoples opinions.

You are entitled to hold opinions which are wrong, but just don't try to pass them off as facts to a newbie whos asking without expecting to be questioned.

I prefer the "grounded in reality" things that actually happen green zone, but you can pick anywhere you want to live ... its not my call

Your chart missed one. I had a long chat (with a client) who firmly believed that the covid vaccine was created by the alien illuminati to change our DNA to make us suitable hosts for the aliens when they invade/take over fully. I had no response.

He got his info from the same website which told him that if you take warfarin, you can no longer drink alcohol nor eat greens. Very trusted source.

.I’ll take quality of life over quantity any day of the week. Funny how no one posts anything negative here about the valve they got. I’ve heard over and over that tissue valves don’t last as long. Ok we get it but has anyone talked to the many many people who are bothered by the mechanical valve noise to the point of going nuts? Just look at the comments all over YouTube about it. How long a valve lasts seems to be the only only argument for mechanical valves and I especially love hearing about the joys of taking blood thinners the rest of one’s life and that the new Resilia tissue valve is only a 30 year valve because the company who made it says it is as though it can’t possibly be true because oops you already have a mechanical valve ticking away inside you.

If we are going to have honest discussions here let’s all get a little bit real. 😁

then you've read selectively or not widely.

I’ve heard over and over that tissue valves don’t last as long. Ok we get it but has anyone talked to the many many people who are bothered by the mechanical valve noise to the point of going nuts?

yes, people have. Those people have also posted over time how they've got used to it or it no longer bothers them. Like my tinitus from my days mixing bands ... I can let it drive me bonkers or just accept the cicadas

How long a valve lasts seems to be the only only argument for mechanical valves

pretty much, yes that's right. And when you face SVD and then the (yet again) decline of health in the lead up to reoperation you will perhaps know why.

Again, as you haven't answered my question of how old you are you may recall that I said depending on your age you will be served well by that valve. If you're 40 or 30 then I'm quite sure you won't be.

You (I assume) have no knowledge of what multiple surgeries are like and apparently don't care what those do to your family either. I hope you get to experience it. Remember this is a wish for a long life.

and I especially love hearing about the joys of taking blood thinners the rest of one’s life

never herd that once ... I have however seen people discussing how to make the best of it and how to benefit without as much difficulty.

and that the new Resilia tissue valve is only a 30 year valve because the company who made it says it is as though it can’t possibly be true because oops you already have a mechanical valve ticking away inside you.

well there you are channelling your shadow, because you are
  • making assumptions about things you know nothing about (suggested readings here on why its very unlikely, but I predict that not only will you not read it you won't understand the veracity of that)
  • you seem to be driven by fear and assume others are
  • you seem to feel that the only reason why people post about mechanical valves and support each other is we feel cheated by the new golden dream and missed out. The reality is that we just don't know about that one and we do know about the one we have.
You will discover (if you live long enough) what reoperation means and what the risks actually are. If you are older than me now then you'll probably die before that valve wears out.

You seem not to grasp that younger people exist and also need to make choices.

I guess that's because you can only think about yourself and this whole forum exists because you came here to ask questions of it.

I don't see you offering any support here.

Best of luck

I sense you are a troll, so depending on what honest engagement you provide with my reply above I'll stay my hand on just ignoring you (as trolls bring nothing to the table).

I grasp all of that... my point is let’s look at ALL of the pros and cons not just the ones we like to cite. That in itself is providing MORE support and transparency to everyone who comes here looking for information that will help them make informative choices. Don’t get mad at me because I note the cons of both valves instead of just singing kumbaya.

And don’t just label someone a troll because you don’t happen to like their point of view.

firstly thanks for a reply of discursive engagement.

That in itself is providing MORE support and transparency to everyone who comes here looking for information that will help them make informative choices.

so perhaps you've just missed them (in like most of my posts) but I always suggest (and its what I see here over years of being here)
  1. no valve provides a definitive cure for your natural valve degradation
  2. the two major types are bioprosthetic and mechanical prosthetic
  3. each valve has issues and compromises
  4. the choice of a prosthesis will be ideal if the expected duration of the valve is greater than the expected life of the patient
  5. a bioprosthesis can only be managed surgically and SVD will begin to become apparent in effecting the valve operation by 10 years, within 20 years there is nearly zero chance that reoperation (or TAVR) is not needed
  6. mechanical valves require anticoagulation therapy and are generally expected to last a life time (read each of those words again)
  7. ticking can be bothersome and if you search here it is both widely and vociferously discussed.
Don’t get mad at me because I note the cons of both valves instead of just singing kumbaya.

I'm not getting mad at you for that, but your very wording right there is not the words of someone asking for genuine input. Its the words of some who has already made a jugement as to the capacity of others (and is demeaning them).

again, and for the last time, how old are you.

And don’t just label someone a troll because you don’t happen to like their point of view.
I didn't I labelled you that for
  • your combative non engaging style
  • your demeaning of others and their choices without even grasping their situation
if it looks like a troll, smells like a troll and posts like a troll its either a troll or someone suffering from the shock of their situation.

Perhaps there's something in that?
