Boooonnnnieeeee,

I am so happpppppy you are back. Hope your trip was good. I just want you to know I have gained two pounds while you were gone.

I will be better, I baked bread and made Italian sauce today, so you know that will be good for the diet.

Ann is right though our weather is back to normal today and really balmy, of course being near the water we experience about 8 to 10 degree warmer than she does .

Bye again

I'll tell you what cold is!

I'll tell you what cold is!

Our furnace died sometime Monday night.
It's now Wed night and the heat was turned on about an hour ago.
We have been living in a house with 40 degree temperatures and outside tonight it will go to 10 below zero.
I have to stop typing because I can't feel my fingers.

Geeze Rich. I am sorry to hear about your heat. Hope you can get someone out soon!

We have a "finished" room in our house 'over garage' Southerner's refer to these spaces as 'bonus rooms'. I don't see any bonus in a room that can't exceed 50 degrees! As luck would have it..... we are still under warranty! I feel a construction nightmare coming on.

Anyway, to my point. Get yourself over to Home Depot and purchase a Honeywell space heater. They are not like the old fashion models. It puts band aide on the problem, but at least you won't freeze. I may have lost my computer monitor because of the temp in that room. I beleive you need to keep your electronics at a certain temp.

Keep warm. 6 degrees and 20-30 below wind chill here tonight! To make myself feel warmer...just booked our spring trip to AZ. I notice it's in the 70's right now! Boy Y'all, you don't know how good you have it

Hey Rich,
I really sympathize with the lack of heat. That happened to us once for 3 days...thank God for fireplaces! Speaking of which, my little Maltese sat in front of our gas fireplace today and just stared at me until I turned it on! Since we've been having some sub-zero weather in Minnesota, even the witches have gotten out their thermal bras!

One thing I do not miss is those horrible cold minnesota winters! I had this tiny little honda CRX, and a 6 foot snow drift in front of my garage. It was about 50 below when THAT storm happened. It might be beautiful, and fun to ski in, but too COLD! I must say, I love Seattle weather during El Nino, what do you say Johnny?

They say el nino is our culprit. Where was el nino years ago? Never even heard of it til recent years? Couldn't have popped up from noplace, could it? Last year it was drought and this winter it is rain and cold.

Rich, I cannot understand what y'all do when your heat goes out. I remember Nancy said her power went off and that means no heat. That would scare me to death. Cold is painful. They have opened a couple of shelters here in our county for these cold nights/days and they don't usually have these except when there's a hurricane. Strange winter for us. Hasn't been this cold since 1985.

Weather folks can't decide if we are going to have 9 or 14 tomorrow morning - does it really make a difference once it gets down to a certain point. Cold is cold is cold..........

As I keep tellin my Norn Iron friend, weather pleases nobody.

Snowing in North Georgia..

Snowing in North Georgia..

Ice all over interstates..I couldn't understand why it was getting cold in my house. Heat off. I thought oh NO but dawned on me..had to go to emergency heat..Will beg for money for heat bill:eek:   Bonnie

JUST THIS ESKIMO CHECKING IN FROM THE FRIGID NORTHLAND. WAS 9 HERE THIS MORNING AND I'VE GIVEN UP ON THE WIND CHILL FACTORS---THEY MAKE IT DEFINITELY BELOW ZEERO!!!!

TO ANSWER HENSLYEE'S POST ABOUT HEAT, OR LACK THEREOF???WE USE OUR FIREPLACE AND WOODSTOVE. THE STOVE IS IN THE BASEMENT, SO IT HEATS ABOUT HALF OF THE HOUSE ANDTHE FIREPLACE IS IN THE LIVING ROOM WHICH IS WHERE WE STAY!! LUCKILY, WE DON'T HAVE IT HAPPEN TOO OFTEN.

KEEP SMILIN IF YOUR MOUTH DOESN'T FREEZE.

EV

It's -3 here this morning with a wind chill advisory, which means stay the h--- in the house. I just took our little dog for a short walk with a double coat on, but her feet get cold and I have to warm them up for her as we walk. I had my ski mask on which helped.

Question for Evelyn--

Have you ever used booties for your dogs? Just wondered if they were worth investing in. My dog doesn't mind a coat at all, but booties, I don't know.

Doggies

Doggies

Mine is sitting here begging for a walk but road looks slippery..and he won't poop unless he is walked way down..Think I'll put him in basement with newspapers..don't think he would know what to do:D :D Bonnie

Definitely too, too cold and for too long a time. My barn water is frozen this morning! That has never happened before except for one night when the heat lamp I hang above the spigot burned out. I hope nothing awful bursts before I get home this afternoon. When you teach, you just can't come in late. Especially when the administration is panting down your neck hoping you will retire or they can convince you to retire so they can hire a new cheaper teacher. We are now starting our 3rd week with temps not getting up to freezing even in the day.

Doggie Boots?

Doggie Boots?

Nancy, We used to have a wonderful little Shih-Tzu. When he was a pup we got the cutest little red rubber boots for him. Used them only once -- as he was galloping across the busy street, each one flew off and was immediately lost in the slush! Over the years we ended up carrying him to the empty lot, and as his paws iced up he would hold up each frozen one for me to warm it in my hands. Smart little guy. . .

When it was too nasty, we spoiled him. I actually loaded him into the car and DROVE him to the doggy lot! Some days we had to wait in line to "use the facility."

The things we do for our four-legged children. After all, you don't buy a dog, you adopt a dog!

P.S. It was about -3 this AM with a -20 wind chill in Chicago. YUK!

hi all!
i just got in from walking the dogs outside... brrrrr!
they don't seem to notice that it's freezing out! in fact, they wanted to stay out there to play and run around a bit longer, but i rushed them in.
we too had not heat for a night. it's a good thing we have lots of extra blankets in the house!!
it's so toasty now though.
joey is away on a golf trip with his buddies in west palm beach. he is cutting his trip short and coming home earlier tomorrow since it's no fun to play golf in the cold!!!
hope you are all staying nice and warm. it's a great night for some hot cocoa!
be well, sylvia

OK y'all

OK y'all

It's meeeeeee Billy, under a new name. Couldn't post for days now so I decided to re-register and try that approach.

Now I wanna move home - I wanna go live in Corpus Christi........according to this thread, seems that's the only warm place in the entire USA.

Then I can drop across to Defuniak in the summer and experience the good summer weather and Ann's southern hospitality.

We can sit on the porch and drink iced tea, use paper church fans and say "well, bless your heart" a lot, and "Lordy, it's hot". But today, I have to say I don't believe it's ever going to be warm here again. Cats nor dogs willt even go out.

I left Ross off

Because he is becoming a good old boy..also Billy Bob aka Bill Aldridge...got him eating black eyed peas and collards..in Fla.:D

Bonnie, you and John come, too - and Joy and Lisa and John and Janie and Robthatsme (specially him), and Bill can pop over - and anyone else who wants to. I have lots of rocking chairs and I can get some church paper fans for everybody.

Just heard the weather report. We had snow in the Gulf of Mexico. Since it's not a lake they can't call it lake effect snow - they called it gulf effect snow! LOL
