BAV does NOT mean a systemic connective tissue disease

Hello Pathfinder--Thanks for all the interesting information. A quick question... When you were talking about connective tissue disorders related to BAV, you mentioned Marfan as being 5-10%. Does this mean that 5-10% of people with Marfan have a BAV? I'm very interested if and how BAV and...

Was/is your valve disease symptomatic before valve replacement?

I've had the same thoughts. I really think congenital heart problems often bring other ailments along with them. In my son's case, for instance, his acid reflux and migraines seem to be shared with many people here on this forum. Let's hope more research is being planned. I know they are...

    Anniversary Present Arriving ON TIME!

Congratulations on a big, beautiful grandson!!!! I had to smile when I saw the pictures because Talon looks so much like Matt when he was born--Matt was the same weight--and you look so much like my twin brother! I can't wait for grandkids (when the boys are old enough!)! Enjoy!

    Francie12 & Other Iowa members!

Hi! Thanks, our small town is not close to the river, but I am so sad for the people in Cedar Rapids and Iowa City. Iowa City is the closest city to us and is very hard hit, with much of its downtown underwater. The river is about to crest at 31.8 feet--a record breaker by a long way. It...

    Life changing steps

Just wanted to weigh in and say how thrilled I am for you and Nathan! I have to agree with what others have said about the pregnancy experience. In my case it was overrated! When you factor in all that morning sickness... The main thing is the baby, and you instantly forget about the...

Unexplained phenomenon - Has it happened to you?

This is not related to a surgery, but I have to tell it... Something I experienced firsthand and always tell to prove that there are some things that we just can't explain. I was at a conference in Thailand and met daily in the mornings with a small group that included a lovely englishwoman...

    OHS for kids

Just wanted to check in to wish you all the best. My son, about to turn sixteen, has the dilated aorta--and to our surprise his younger brother has one also, but without the leaky bicuspid valve. It's good you're checking out your son. We've known about Matt's heart for four years, and I'm...

    results from echo

I kind of hesitated to reply because I am so not an expert, but my son has very similar numbers to yours (a key number, LVdd, is exactly the same--60) and we are still officially in watch and wait mode. Do you have any symptoms? I know that is an important factor. I'm looking up Phyllis' site...

    migraines

Just last week my son had an appointment with a neurologist for left-sided numbness which was thought to be connected to his complex migraines. To be sure and to rule out other conditions he was given an MRI of the brain and two MRAs (with contrast) of the vessels in the head and neck. These...

Needs surgery now, but no date yet.

Sending all my best wishes your way. I know what you mean, if only we could do it for them--so much easier for all concerned. Don't forget how resilient these young ones are. Their bodies are growing and changing so much already, they'll take this big change in stride, and just keep on...

Please let us know what happens on Friday. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for the best news. I do know what it's like when you're getting close to appointment time--nerves and hope and nerves. All the best.

It woke up both of my boys, but I slept through it. Darn! I missed seeing the tornados a couple of weeks ago too.

    Kids got my BAV?

I'd be concerned too Mary, given the experience in our family. One son has the BAV, but his father and younger brother just have the dilated asc. aortas. That would be a great study to show to your cardiologist.
