Earthquake! Who else felt it?

I was awakened from a sound sleep at 4:30 this morning by the house shaking and furniture rattling.
We had an uncommon 5.2 tremor shake most of the region awake.
The good news is it wasn't centered along the New Madrid Fault line. That baby runs right alongside us and was responsible for the strongest earthquake ever recorded on the North American continent.
The one this morning is near VR member Sherry and close to our hometown in Southern Illinois.

The earthquake apparently was felt in Louisville. We didn't feel it; we're 45 miles away from Louisville. One of the TV stations in Louisville pre-empted Good Morning America for local coverage of the earthquake, per my newly stented MIL.

Glad you're OK Mary. Hoping all is well with Sherry also.

I live in South Bend, IN. I have lived in the Florida or the Midwest my entire life and have never experienced an earthquake. I was asleep and awoke suddenly and was scared to death. I thought my heart was pounding so hard that it was making the bed shake! This happened to me often before my first surgery so I was really worried. In my grogginess I vowed that I would go to the cardio and ask for a higher dose of Toprol.

When I went to a meeting at work in the morning and everyone was talking about an earthquake that happened around 5:30. I then remember my bed shaking incident and put two and two together and voila! Earthquake. I was actually quite relieved.

It really was a very wide ranging quake. I didn't feel it, but a friend that lives north of me by about 10 miles had it wake her up - go figure.

It woke up both of my boys, but I slept through it. Darn! I missed seeing the tornados a couple of weeks ago too.

I went to bed early last night because I wasn't feeling well. When I first woke up this morning, I thought I was late for work. Then I looked at the clock ... 4:51 AM. Dangblasted, I thought ... and went back to sleep.

Then, when my alarm went off at 6 AM, the first thing I heard was: "Well, did you feel that earthquake this morning?" My "waking up" brain thought, 'What the hell are you talking about? How could we feel a quake in California?' Then I thought ... oh no ... hope it wasn't a bad one. Then the news guy said, "You might not have, but it WAS centered in southern IL." It was then that I realized I probably was awakened by the earthquake, even though it took me a few minutes to actually wake up ... lol.

I said I didn't feel it, which I didn't. I read in our local paper that others in town were awakened by it, so I guess it takes more than that to get me stirring.
