Because I care for the welfare of everyone on this forum, I feel I must pass on some vital information to those receiving Disability benefits:

The other night, I was watching a comic show, and a topic they were discussing stopped me dead on my tracks. Apparently, a woman who had been receiving Soc Sec Disability beneifts for being 'clinically depressed' was now at the verge of losing her benefits because Gov dogs had found her profile in Facebook & her photo appeared to them too happy for someone to be considered clinically depressed!

I know that many of us appear to be healthy & in perfect condition on the outside to those who have no clue of what we've been thru.

I know this for a fact because for three years my boss could not & would not believe that I was that seriously ill & thought I was just trying to get sympathy. It wasn't until I was told that I needed a 4th OHS that she said to me, "oh my, I had no idea you were that bad off!" I just smiled & said, I tried to tell you so.

So take this bit of information, digest it & heed my warning~

Love ya all!

I wonder...are we,who have aneurysm,regurg,stenosis. arrhythmia,CHF,etc,
...are we allowed to smile-or does a smile indicate health:rolleyes:
BTW-I have met(worked with) some clinically insane people who do nothing but smile:p

But I will heed the warning and take it as serious as it is-thanks

Hi Norma,

If it's the government, especially anything to do with this administration, I believe it!

Thanks very much for the post.

God bless

I think they are looking for any and all reasons to cut benefits.
Our Gov is in big trouble financially.
Frankly,I am worried.

That is why I got off facebook. The union where I work told us if the administrtion saw something about an employee on facebook, twitter, it could put our job in jeopardy. So I got off. Big Brother is watching:eek:

She lives in Quebec and it was her companies insurance group (not that I don't think it wouldn't happen here. I've also read article that potential employers check facebook, myspace before they hire someone)
http://www.cbc.ca/canada/montreal/story/2009/11/19/quebec-facebook-sick-leave-benefits.html
A Quebec woman on long-term sick leave is fighting to have her benefits reinstated after her employer's insurance company cut them, she says, because of photos posted on Facebook Nathalie Blanchard, 29, has been on leave from her job at IBM in Bromont, Que., for the last year and a half after she was diagnosed with major depression.

The Eastern Townships woman was receiving monthly sick-leave benefits from Manulife, her insurance company, but the payments dried up this fall.

When Blanchard called Manulife, the company said that "I'm available to work, because of Facebook," she told CBC News this week.

She said her insurance agent described several pictures Blanchard posted on the popular social networking site, including ones showing her having a good time at a Chippendales bar show, at her birthday party and on a sun holiday — evidence that she is no longer depressed, Manulife said........

When you are scared that your medical benifits will be cancelled, because of pictures on Facebook, no matter where this happens, we are ALL DEFINITELY IN TROUBLE!! We will be seeing alot more of this sort of thing if the CURRENT health care bill is passed. That's my opinion.

I have been in IT for well over 30 years and many of the young kids think I am a dinosaur because I refuse to use things like social networking sites, texting, and other such things. But, one of my specialties is system and data security. I am very careful what I post here and elsewhere on the net.

Just to be safe remember what you post online will survive forever. Once the servers are backed up, the data is saved on backup. Google, Yahoo, and other search engines archive pages on a regular basis and the archives can be searched.

If there are things you do not want certain people to know, do not post it online anywhere. For example, I do not even send sensitive (SSN, credit info, and things like that) via email. I call or send faxes instead.

Norma,
What I do is keep my email for family pics and personal info, and my very new FB account is only for FarmTown, FarmVille, and VR buddies. You may have noticed that it is not my real name that I use and not even my personal email account. My FB profile is only connected to a specific gmail account.
My personal info is indeed that.....PERSONAL. I choose what to share and when.
Norma, come back to the farms, just open up another email and FB account under a fictitous name.

Me think about it my bud okay? I miss my little farms, neighbors & all! :(

But I's a big chicken too! :p

Think about it like this guys...if they are suspicous of someone not being disabled, they are much more likely to hire a private investigator to come and check you out rather than look on some pic's on FB. I also think it is much more likely to be a private disability insurance company that is going to look into whether or not you are disabled than the government.

Right on...agree 100% simply because it's using common sense and logical.
