As I suggested in the 4th post of this thread compression hose are used when a clot is in the formula ....if in fact this is susoected than other steps should be looked at maybe . KEEP walking and don`t let blood pool .......

I'll be getting my long walk in when it warms up some, it does swell more the more I am on it. It is smaller in mornings and more mush feeling, I notice the more I am on it the harder it becomes.

Ended up getting the bump drained yesterday afternoon, it is wrapped tight. Directions are to keep ace wrap on for 48 hrs, OK to remove for shower then wrap up again.
I hate to be pessimistic , but it just looks like it is already beginning to swell again.
PA tells me we won't need to see you again unless the leg swells .....crossing fingers on this one.
Should know in a couple days or more.
Brad

I'm glad they drained it. Did you happen to see what the fluid they drained out looked like? Do you know if they were sending it to be cultured or other tests?
Hopefully you're wrong and it isnt swelling again. You should probably take pictures or measure it whn the ace is off to keep track of if it is getting better or not

Hi Lyn, sorry I'm really bad at remembering medical terms, the Dr who drained it showed me the fluid when I asked to see it.
It was very clear looking, she said it was plasma and some other stuff ( the terms I don't recall). She did not give any indication of it being tested.

Good idea on taking pics, I'll do that.

Clears good, at least it didnt looks like there was any pus or blood, so that should be a good sign

WEnt and took wrap off, it is filling right back up again.

I wonder if left alone what could become of this in the long term??

Update on this; called Friday and reported the disappointment. No call back from Doc's office, so called today to see if I can get in since Tuesday is see the patient day.
Got call back saying the surgeon wants to see it himself again next Tuesday . So I have an appt. next week with him.

So basically you have to waste another week, with the chance it will get even worse? You seem to be much more patient than I am

I'll keep an eye on it, if I think it is getting worse I will call . But ya, was disappointing to not get in today since I had to go to there for blood work anyway.

Just got back from my Surgeon's office an hour ago, he was busy and did not have time to check my leg out himself. His assistant drained it again and said that if it filled back up with fluid then my surgeon would either do a small surgical procedure on it , or opt for another draining.

So I leave dressing on which is wrapped very tight for the next 48 hours. The assistant said she has only seen this twice before, so now she can make that 3, she did state that mine is the largest , nothing I can brag about though. :frown2:

Hope all goes well, I'm sure they would like to see me better.

Sorry to hear it needed drained again, how frustrating. I hope this is the last time and you can get on with your recovery

I can't wait to pull this wrap off and check out my leg, it really began to get painful last night when that local wore off, this was not the case the first time.
I got a feeling that the PA did some cutting that would allow the wound to drain some, it is very uncomfortable.
Tomorrow at 3:00 pm off it comes and I shall see what I have got to deal with, crossing fingers.

I think it is time to consult a wound specialist as you are nearing nine weeks post op and that wound needs to be healed .........are you using Betadine Cream under the wrap ?

Agreed, it needs to heal.

I don't know what the PA put on, she gave me explicit instructions to not remove for 48 hours. 8.5hrs to go and I can look at it.

Greg my uneducated opinion on why the wound has a hard time healing is the more active I am the more the wound swells , not a good situation for the incision area. It also is in a position that rubs the pant leg.

I would rather let the surgeons office have a chance at fixing me , I'm not ready to give up on them at this point.

I'm going to assume this type of problem has not shown up here before or not recently.

I thought that a week ago. The last thing you need this soon after valve surgery is an open wound for months and increased chances of getting an infection.

Brad, how did it look when you took off the wrap?

First , I think that the camera makes the incision area look worse then it is. It is completely closed , maybe I had taken earlier pics after a hot bath ???

Ok, when I took wrap off it was just a small bump from what could fill in with the wrap on. Now that it has been off for awhile it is filling, I really took it easy last coupe days as well.
I did not do any of my exercise walks. I think if i went out and did my 2 miles it would be right back up again.
So in the morning I am going for my walk ( gonna be around 20 degrees out , may walk faster ) when I get back I'll check it out and then call the Doc's office.
It does look like she made a couple 1/2 cuts on the lower side of the bump, I knew that sucker hurt this time. Think I'll have my wife look at it and see if she thinks it was a small cut.
Any hoot the drama continues with the old left leg. Maybe I should just leave it alone and live with it??

Sorry to hear it is still filling back up
Maybe you should have her take a picture of it so you can see it better and have a record to compare it to.(We did that with a spot Justin had a problem with and it was helpful to have the different pictures days apart to show the doctors too. I think the reason you arent finding more people who had it so have advice, is not that many people also had a CABG at the same time or didnt have their vein harvested from the leg. I wonder if there is a forum for people who've had CABGs and see if you find others with the problem. I only remeber one member here who had problems with his leg, but cant remeber his name..he had a few major problems tho from whati remember.
