Hi Lisa! DO listen to what Al (Capshaw) is saying as symptoms are sort of a side-line issue as to surgery. I also had a congenital bicuspid aortic valve. I had NO symptoms but a new internist wanted me to get my life-long murmur evaluated. Had an echo and told I had severe aortic stenosis, but could maybe put the surgery (that WOULD need to be done) off 2-5 years. I felt that was like living waiting for the other shoe to drop which is very stressful. So cardio decided to do a heart cath to get closer to the problem--presto--I was found to be in an emergency situation, my first symptom might just have been sudden death (which by the way, is the MOST common symptom). I had the surgery right away with a new St. Judes and that was 5 years ago. Was back to work full time in 5-6 weeks and haven't had so much as a sick day since (didn't have any before either!). Going strong, clicking along, no problems with coumadin, etc. So don't wait too long. Surgery has risks, but in the long run is more safe than sorry. I'm glad I pushed my cardio.....Good luck! Susan:cool:

There are so many terms used here that are new to me. What is severe aortic stenosis. And what is regurgitation. Any other terms that are heart associated would be very helpful.

Thanks
