You'll have to get Nortons removal tool and run it, then try to install free AVG. It installed fine on my vista machine.

I used every weapon in my arsenal from several different antivirus scans, malwarebytes, prevx csi, Spybot search and destroy, Hijack this and the thing was still attached to windows logon. All it took was a reboot of the computer and it went nuts into an endless loop of saving settings, loading settings and nothing else. Couldn't even boot into safe mode. :mad:

Ross, did you do a defrag after all the cleanup, turn off system restore, then reboot? After you reboot, do another system defrag, then re-engage system restore. The virus sometimes gets into system restore so you keep restoring it.

Since I accessed the malware site from my laptop I have a bunch of code I could use when I boot my desktop to clean the C drive directory, but I am so completely discouraged by likely needing to reformat, I'm considering taking the tower to a repair shop. If they can't rescue my .doc or .txt or .jpg files, then I'll pay the minimum and go reformat at home but if they can get past the trojan and clean the malware from my harddrive and memory, it's money well spent, but not this month. <sigh>

Ross, I feel you. Grrrr!!!!:mad::mad::mad:

The Hubster is pretty good at cleaning up viruses. Maybe I should ship him to you? You prefer UPS or FedEx?

Oh Rossman...I feel better now...knowing that even you the Security Computer Expert has been bitten by a 'puter bug...

Hope you get rid of the nasty critter...it gets a bit annoying after a few hours of trying to sort that stuff out only to have the bugga come back.

Eva, not to be stupid, but Orthodox what? I've heard of Orthodox Jews (who probably don't celebrate Easter week), Russian Orthodox, and Greek Orthodox. Are their others? Just wondering!

Lisa, actually you are very smart and I am sure you know that!!

You are right...there are Greek and Russian Orthodox, And also antiochian, Ukranian, and Eastern (which originated from Greek Orthodox) and Coptic Orthodox (originated from Egypt). I, personally, was born of Greek Catholic parents, attended a Evangelical school, attended Roman catholic masses as a child since we lived very close to a church, and then followed the Greek Catholics since I joined their choir in my late teens. The G C liturgy is a bit shorter than the orthodox;):D). We are very similar to Greek Orthodox...we are in communion with the Pope, but we have our own Patriarch.
The Middle Eastern/Greek, antochian, Ukranian, Russian Orthodox follow the Byzantine rite.

I'm trying to save what I can and then I'll be off the net for a couple days. I say a couple because so far, this whole thing has been nothing but a nightmare. People keep asking me why I never bought an external hard drive and cloned a good copy of my internal to it for just such purposes. Simple answer, I ain't got the money to waste on things that aren't needed, even if I do lose some of my precious stuff. Working on getting things off that I can now.

Coming down the home stretch. Gotta put IE 8 on yet and a couple of updates, then I can start installing my programs again.
