RCB. Global warming is a scientific issue. We discuss science here.

I thought this thread was about the heat.....what cooler place is there to go than a movie theater. For a change, go see a riveting documentary...... Thank you for bringing it up, Temp.

We're finally cooler here in the Northwest. Had our highest low on record in July a few weeks ago......77 being the coolest it got one night ( I know, I know, no big deal for some of you! ;) ) Now they're saying that our last heat wave was driven by the east coast's first heat wave. If you guys are thinking of sending this new one back to us again you can just forget it!! We've had enough, thanks!!

Please take care, everyone. It is really dangerous heat.

Stem cell, abortion, etc., etc., are all about SCIENCE. They are also about
religion. When someone brings a politician’s name in to the discussion then it is
become a political discussion with all the bias envolved.

Please don't try to characterize what is talked about here as science. We are all laymen and not medical researchers. When was the last time there was a demand for Bob H. and Andy to debate the best algorithms in AI or a command performance that Burair regale us with his take on Unitary Theory vs. Dualistic Theory? I’m sure their “cup (not) runeth over!” in the matter.:D

As I said, there are plenty of good websites for these debates, where posters tear other poster’s genitals out and stuff them down their throats.
If that sort of thing appeals to you- it is only a quick Google search away.

I would prefer to keep this forum special and free from the injections of politics. I don't see a down side to this position, given the freedom of the net to find that sort of thing elsewhere, but I have never found a better site about heart valve surgery!:)

Danny touched me by reminding us that our men and women in uniform are dealing with 115+ temps everyday so we can be here are complain about our lot is life. Thanks, Danny. Your comment humbled me.

That is not to say that there isn't real suffering going on state-side, because there is.

Also, North Texas is not reaching it's conservation goals and may shortly upgrade to stage 4 restrictions. Unless we achieve 20% savings, our demand will exceed supply next year. I'm irritated because the phenomenal growth has been going on for some time, and we find out now that there is no adequate plan. We'll outpace supply by 2008 with or without the drought. Grrrrrrrrrr. A new lake is in the planning stages. I hope that there will be water to fill it.

Also, remember..that our policemen, firefighters, are also suffering in this heat wave.... My son, a policeman has to wear a heavy vest underneath his shirt..for 10 hours. a day from some nut..that may decide to shoot him from something stupid.. they deserve a big thank you here in America. We complain..we are in A/C..but they are out there in the heat protecting all of us. 24 hours a day..Bonnie

Sorry to be a pesimist

Sorry to be a pesimist

I happen to like the summer, hot or not. I like the lake, the swimming pool, and outdoor activities. however, I must admit that it has been a little excessively hot lately. It just rained here, everywhere except at my house just like always. I relay could use some rain on the lawn and gardens, my water bill is climbing. Sorry about your garden Karlynn, thats a bummer.

Bonnie, when my youngest son was a policeman they were exempted from wearing their vests when the temps were above 90. I still requested he wear it though since bullets don't follow the same guidelines. Are they mandatory for your son's department?

Global warming

Global warming

seems to have touched a nerve. It's not a political issue, it's a survival issue.

don't wish to debate anyone or dress anyone down about it, just passing along information which is pertinent to the thread.

for those who don't "believe" in global warming, you have my deepest sympathy.

for the rest of us, it's time to act. I'm not trying to organize a boycott or influence a vote or sell a product. Freedom of expression is a wonderful thing.

:D

When it got very hot here, maybe 98 or so, it set some kind of record for that day. The last time it was that hot on that day was in the 1800s or something.

So, I guess, we are not much worse than times in the past. It's always enlightening to hear about what things were way back when. It puts it into a better perspective.

Can't say Joe or I are any more crabby than usual:D :D :D We're both still Irish and can turn on a dime, and slime ya with sarcasm.

But I DO see that some of ya'll are. That's a joke, that's a joke!:p

Truly annoying...the swimming pool was actually hitting the three-digit mark, even as the "cold front" was coming through. Temps did drop about six degrees in twenty minutes, but the big "break" in the weather was that the heat went from around 100˚F to around 90˚F.

Call me ungrateful, but that's still too hot for me...

I'm grumpy anyway, because my vehicle is in the shop for an indeterminate amount of time, due to a puzzling electrical short. I'm driving my son's SUV, and I'm grateful to use it, but its air conditioning is vershtunkt.

Best wishes,

Betty

Betty

I talked to my son..he said, yes..they have to wear the vest..but..he has something in his car..where he can put cool air into his vest. but said it worked great.:) Still feel sorry for our firemen..when they have to go to a fire.. ..I watch the news every morning..ABC. NBC, cable,ect....They all say the same thing...This heat wave..moved from California..midwest..to .East.Now, cooling down..and dropping into the South by next week..Normal temps for us..:p ...We always have 90 in August. :D Bonnie

Bonnie and Betty,

Bonnie and Betty,

Thank those boys of yours for me. I sure do appreciate those that serve! Thanks too Danny! My brother's nephew, (who he helped raise so he seems like my nephew too) is hopefully finishing up his second tour in Iraq. I am so very proud and grateful for his service! I was given a Camelpack for him last Christmas at a trade show. Turns out the one he was issued had worn out! Can't imagine how grumpy I'd be in that heat month after month. It was 100 in the shade here for one day, and I was very uncomfortable! Had a bit of rain today. Not so hot, but quite muggy. Mary, if you're still grumpy, I'm sending a big cyber hug in hopes it helps!:D Temp69, I'm with you! All the best, Brian

I spent 11 hours at Ozzfest in camden yesterday (fri) and while I was happy for the big "break" it was still HOT, you know it is bad when they actually drop the price of bottle waters from the usual 4-5 bucks to 2 dollars because of the heat wave so people can afford to drink alot of water. the main stage has seating under a roof so I was really happy we didn't have lawn seats, but the 2nd stage is in the black topped parking lot and THAT was really hot. BUT Justin and I went together since he is 18 I don't get to spend enough good days like that w/ just the 2 of us having fun, so I had a really good time and was worth the heat.
today i am NOT leaving the AC lol Lyn
ps and yes there were alot of idiots dressed in all black long sleeves and pants, BUT there were also girls w/ just body paint on, and shorts I was thinking we will have to take ross w/ us next year lol

Tom,

Thank You, and THANK THEM TOO.

BTW: 118 in Basra, Iraq today!!!!!!!

And being a fireman I can talk first hand how hot it is WITH all that protective gear on. You can actually pour water out of your boots (and it ain't from the hoses). Just try to get relief from coming out of a burning building to almost 100 degrees. Thank God (and a few nice taxpayers) that we have an air conditioned pumper. But, unlike the police, we can at least take our gear off.

Have a happy week-end--I'm spoiling grandkids.........:p :p :p :D :D :D :D

May God Bless,

Danny:)

PS: It's "FILL THE BOOT" time (MDA). When you see that fireman standing out in the hot sun with his boot out, give him whatever you can afford. (This has been an un-paid non-political advertisement:p :p :D :D )

Ok,
I'm not irritable anymore!:D :D :D

I played dodgeball the other night, and it knocked my grumpiness right out of me--literally!
I raced (ha! :p ) up to the line to get a dodgeball and proceeded to trip and fall on my face . . . thought about it and got back up and ran some more.;)
We only won one game out of four, but I got the winning "hit" for the one game. I know the guys on the other team were embarassed to belt me with a throw like they do the guys on our team (husband, son-in-law, two sons), so I was able to catch the easy lobe thrown my way and get the last player out.

YES!!!!!!!

And I didn't care one bit that I was sweating like a pig (hey, porcine valve friends, don't be offended):p :p :p :p :p :p :p :p

Houston HEAT!!

Houston HEAT!!

OKay...so cleaning out your garage in the summer in Houston is hot enough.....but...

Okay so one day a couple years ago my dad decided we'd clean out our garage. So we moaned and whined and "why do we have to...it's so hot!!" But, with a ten dollar bribe, we started. So we took out all the bikes and those big plastic bins and put them out in the grass until there was room for them in the garage again. Well, funny thing. When we picked up the bikes to bring them back in they like BURNED our hands!! So we took them in VERY quickly. Then the big plastic bins I had to carry on my stomach, well, like leaning them against it because they were so heavy, and man did that burn. Soo, as it turns out, that day was the hottest day in Houston history!!! And I had red lines on my stomach from those bins for like four days!!

Yeah...that's my story....it's still pretty hot but I'm inside a lot. And school starts soon....ugh. I still have to read 200 pages of a book before Thursday...not sure if that's gunna happen. YEah...so I need to get on it!!

Ok, now I'm really aggravated. I just went through chat members and some have registered with no email addresses. Guess what, if your one of them, you don't have an account anymore! I don't think these folks are forum members either, but they are gone now and will be gone if they won't follow the registration instructions.
