I hate to bust the trend here, even though the heat wave has my electric meter spinning out of control... i'm actually in a very good mood.. weird mood, but good none the less.. i'm planning a way over due vacation to visit old friends and meet new ones.. (haven't taken a vacation in over 3 years, time to have some major fun), i've let go on some personal stresses which that decision alone to walk away really helped my state of mind.. and I recently found out i'll be a college graduate one term early.. 7 months away.. so outside of the "knock you on your butt" heat wave, and the idiots on the road - i'm actually in a very great place right now.. go figure

Chris:)

Nan,
I do think the heat is harder on valvers. I don't know why but
, That's my story and I'm sticking to it!

Tommy,
Mary, Mary is feeling contrary! And if you could see my hair in this humidity, you'd be thinking,
There was a little girl who had a little curl, right in the middle of her forehead. And when she was good, she was very good, but when she was bad, she was HORRID! (unlike Emma!)

Deb,
lobsta boil goes right along with Georgia's dry roast! :p :p

And Christine, good for you! Of course your trip to Texas isn't until October, so hopefully it will be cooler by then!

An Inconvenient Truth

In Los Angeles, it's been getting hotter and hotter, records being smashed. Gee, ya think it might have SOMETHING to do with global warming? Go see Al Gore's movie, then talk to everyone you know -- elephants and donkeys alike -- we've got to stop this thing now. Clinton just announced steps that can be taken. Google the issue.

Yes, I'm irritable because school starts for me tomorrow. Goodbye summer. Remember those days, Miss Mary? ;) ;)

Temp,
I realize that you have only been here for four months, but it is kind of an unwritten rule around here that our valve debate get hot enough, so we discourage debates about politics and religion. No sense interjecting such a
hot (no pun intended) topic in what is meant to be a thread to blow off steam
and have a little fun.
If you want a debate on this topic there are thousands of pro-con websites and blogs to go to let the fur fly. Not one of them will give you as much information on HVR as this one.
Just some friendly advice.:)

I thought teachers always loved to get back to school! :p :D

Hot?

Hot?

So...yeah, it's pretty hot in Texas!! Especially when you're at summer camp for two weeks literally hiking outside in it!! But excersize makes you happy!! (Says Elle Woods!! :) ) Right? Made me tired!! Ready for siesta after lunch! But now I'm home and school starts soon. Running outside for P.E.! Wish me luck...

RCB. Global warming is a scientific issue. We discuss science here.

I thought this thread was about the heat.....what cooler place is there to go than a movie theater. For a change, go see a riveting documentary...... Thank you for bringing it up, Temp.

We're finally cooler here in the Northwest. Had our highest low on record in July a few weeks ago......77 being the coolest it got one night ( I know, I know, no big deal for some of you! ;) ) Now they're saying that our last heat wave was driven by the east coast's first heat wave. If you guys are thinking of sending this new one back to us again you can just forget it!! We've had enough, thanks!!

Please take care, everyone. It is really dangerous heat.

Marguerite

I can join the grumpy bandwagon. Yes, it's hot. And I swear I'm having hot flashes, even though I'm nowhere near the big "M." One minute I'm fine, the next minute I'm getting hotter and hotter from the inside. No amount of fan action seems to satisfy. I've gotten into a cold shower more than once this past week just to cool off.

To top off the heat wave, I've been trying to schedule a stress test before I have to go back to work (Aug. 11th for me, Sherry). I've left messages, talked to the scheduler, and been told multiple times I'd be getting a phone call back... Not once. That is, until I started talking to the Office Manager... I'm thinking someone's going to be getting a serius talking to when she gets into the office today.

So true. This has been a much better place since this kind of stuff stopped.

Temp,
My husband and I discussed that possibility ourselves last night. I don't know if anyone remembers the episode on The Twilight Zone where the woman is in a world that is turning to ice? As it turns out, she's dreaming, and at the end of the show they reveal that the Earth has gotten a little out of kilter and everyone is actually burning up. Either way, I don't like it!;) ;)
Sherry, I'm so sorry you're about to start back to work. I think they're opening schools way too early; they need to wait until after Labor Day. I'm contracting out for six to eight week periods, so I can choose when I want to work. And right now I'm choosing not to go back until October!;) :D
RCB, teachers love to go back to school just as much as students love to go back!;)
Rossgurlie, if you're running in the Texas heat, I only have one thing to say--YOU GO GIRL!
Ah, and Mr. Gadget-Wadget, so glad you dropped in to let us know that Basra is almost as hot as some places in the Midwest!:p :p :p :p
Marguerite, I'm with you . . . let's not play "heat wave keep away" between the East and West coasts, because the rest of the country is stuck in the middle!:D :D :D
Niki I'd really be grumpying if I were dealing with pseudo hot flashes, stress tests, and school in 10 day's time. Yuck!
Hey Wise! HOW HOT IS IT IN KY? I hope your mom is doing OK through all of this!:)

Mom it's supposed to be 91 today, so we're hot enough. A little less heat is in the forecast for here in the coming days. My mom is doing okay. Since she's using her oxygen all the time, she feels better. She even turned on their AC (thank God), to the dismay of my stepfather (he wears long sleaves shirts in this weather --- he needs some spice in his life is he's that cold). Mom goes for a followup visit with the pulmonologist tomorrow; his regimen seems to be working though. Thanks for asking.

We have relief here! Lower temps and rain! Yea!!! I'm doing the Dance of Joy!

Wise,
I can relate! We visited with my husband's folks last week-end. His mom keeps the thermostat set at 70 (even too cold for me  ) while Bob's dad freezes.
He actually sits outside, in long sleeves, so he can take a nap! They fuss and fight about it all the time. Bob's mom threatened to turn it down so low that Jerry would need to wear a coat the rest of the summer! ;)

Heat

Heat

This heat does make me tired and crabby. Hate sleeping in closed up house , just like winter. Hope it cools off a litttle. Between a sore shoulder and the heat, I am just a little out of sorts. Supposed to be in the high 80s today. Had storms all last night.
