One thing I like about Dell is you can go on line and talk to a rep on what your want it for. They will calculate the price for you. I just did this for a friend. He wanted mainly for email and web surf. Maybe a little download. And for sure a broadband mobile set up so he can go from three different homes and have service at all. He has had it for about a month and is overly happy with it. That's all he talks about. LOL I too would suggest an upgrade on the battery. Mine has this and I can do a lot of things at once with no slow down.

hey guys,
bought the HP mini 1000 and had it upgraded with an extra gig of ram, so far I am loving it, so much, in fact that I got rid of the old dinosaur that I was reluctant about getting rid of,

thanks for the advice!

Well, thanks to all of your advice and a couple of others that I talked to, I decided on the MacBook. I checked into MacMall, the student discount program, my employee discount program, and the direct purchase from the website, but found the best deal with MicroCenter, who was giving a $200 rebate. So, at $799, I feel like I got a great deal, and an Epson all in one printer "thrown in" for $39. I'm not sure if she'll need the printer, but at that price, we figured we'd get it just in case.

Even though graduation is still a month away, we went ahead and gave it to her to make sure that it worked. She was very excited that she got "the best" and has been playing with it. I need to purchase the Microsoft Office Suite and found a good deal on MacMall.

Thanks again. I think it was perfect!

I know this is from spring, but I am looking for a netbook or small/light notebook and was wonderring IF anyone knows of any good deals, or have gotten one since Morgan started this thread and if you like it or hate it.

I am computer impaired, mainly just need it for emails, shopping, surfing the net. BUT I don't have much patience and like to have a couple tabs going at once. Also I don't want a real small keyboard. (boy I never realized how fussy I am) I have an desktop and older (about 5 years) laptop so this wouldn't be my main computer, but our laptop is pretty big (15 inches?) and heavy and I don't want to have to lug it all over the hospital ect.

I figure this weekend might be a good time to find good deals since I don't want to spend much money. Thanks

www.cnet.com is a good place to go for equipment reviews.

If you are looking for portability, a netbook can be great and relatively inexpensive. I bought one before our trip to China this past summer and it worked really well. Since my fingers are not small, I looked for one with normal size keys instead of a compressed keyboard. The little machines seem to reproduce music well via ear phones but few if any are going to do so through their speakers.

My daughter loves her Mac, the lite weight one. She is wondering why her dad never has gotten a Mac before. He has always been a PC. I guess it's because of the initial cost. But, my girl says she is a Mac lover now.
