Welcome Dennis. Glad to have you on board. We all know what you are going through. I'm 4 weeks out of surgery and I'm feeling stronger everyday. I chose the mechanical valve over the tissue valve because of it's longevity and my age (57). Cheers.

Welcome Dennis
I had my mitral valve replaced by a team from Sot'n General. It was over the road in the Chalybeate (now BUPA Southampton). I do have my annual echocardiogram in the General now as my insurance company has stopped coughing up.

As I also had raging endocarditis, the valve replacement was apparently very difficult. Luckily I had Steven Livesey as my surgeon and I'm still here to talk about it. My cardiologist was (and is) also excellent - Iain Simpson.

As they've now got the new heart wing open - you ought to get really great treatment.
Now, if they can just fix the car parking...

Thanks

Thanks

Thanks for the info Ron, Mr Livesey is my surgeon also - glad you rate him highly :) i have only seen him very briefly, he left his registrar Mr Viola to discuss things. I just wish I could get an admission date and get it over and done with!
I'll keep you all updated.
I'm really glad I found this forum, I feel a lot less apprehensive than I did.

Hey there Dennis, welcome!!

It's about a year to the day for my "apprehensive" time. I totally understand that feeling. Getting it over with and getting on with life is the best part.

You'll do great, ask away if you have questions or use the search box here to research.

All the best,
Ruth

Pre-assessment

Pre-assessment

Hi Everyone
Had my pre-assessment today, everything is looking good, but still haven't been given an admission date. Nurse practitioner said it will probably be in January, just have to wait for the letter to arrive. Well at least I will be able to celebrate Christmas and New Year :) :) :)

Hope you can get through it without worrying too much, have the best christmas and new year ever, take care:)

Not sure if this is where I post. I am new to the forum.
having surgery for replacement of Mitral valve also repair to Tricuspid and Aortic valves.
Have seen the Cardiac surgeon once and seeing him again in a few weeks. he has suggested that the surgery be done as soon as possible.
At times I am ok with this and other times scared just thinking about it.
I have read some really good interesting information in this forum which helps to calm the nerves a little.
Margaret.

Welcome to the VR Community, Margaret. This is the right forum to post your introduction, but you may want to start a brand new thread. Best wishes.

Hi Everyone
Just to let you know I have received my letter. my op is scheduled for 17th December - so may have to celebrate Christmas in hospital.

They might plan on throwing you out for Christmas Eve but who knows, you might just get a delightful hospital Christmas dinner then get thrown out a day or two later.

BUPA assumed I would be in for ten days including the night before my operation, I stayed an extra day because my daughter couldn't collect me on the Saturday, I had to stay until Sunday.

Glad you got your date so quick with no messing around, wishing you the very best of luck with your surgery and hope you have a speedy recovery.

You may be out by Christmas. I was in the hospital 7 days, and that was because I had to wear the pacemaker a couple of extra days and had a low grade fever they wanted to keep an eye on. So if you mirror me, you'll be out on the 24th. They told me 5 - 7 days is typical.

Keep busy and prepare your home for your recovery. Try to do some fun stuff too as post-op you'll be very occupied working on your recovery. Best wishes and good luck.
