Please have your Cardiologist to check you out for an aneurysm....I think back now...to a few years before they found my aneurysm...Reaching out to wash windows at son's house...  Driving down a few hours later to meet for a family xmas lunch..Pain came on during washing windows..lasted that 2 minutes you mentioned..and then at a stop sign before I got to Xmas party. Hit me again..gone in a few minutes. Never told anyone...Maybe a year later..same thing..reached out to wash mirrors over bathroom sink. Hit so hard..Just took a deep breath and was gone in a minute... I think my aneurysm was doing something??  But another year went by..and lo and behold..they found it..just in time..   Mine was only found thru Cath.....I don't think you had a pulled muscle..because I was fine after both my shooting pains... Don't want to scare you...Bonnie

If you get that pain again....Do you have a small hospital with an ER? on the Island or nearby?..The reason I ask..We have a very large hospital and a smaller one in Gainesville, Ga. My son worked with Sheriff's Dept. for 12 years in that town..He always says..go to the smaller ER.. That is where he took his son..My Kameron Thursday at 4:30 P.M....The doctor on called stayed with my Grandson the entire time..until 8 a.m...Watched him like a hawk..In and out of room every 10 minutes...My Grandson got all his treatments in the ER room..never even thought of transferring him...but of course had told son..if he thought it necessary would transfer him a mile away to pediatric unit at larger hospital....Nurses all the time in room with him..:) :) :) Kept my son informed quickly of cat scan and spinal tap..No waiting. When we left..they said..let him wear gown and wrap him in the hospital blanket to take home..Car...less than 20 ft. away... Point..smaller hospitals are better when it comes to nothing serious..like heart attack,ect...Bonnie

I hear you loud and clear. Thank you so much.

Nancy, you are so right ? thank you for the feminist shot in the arm.

Kim, I know exactly how you feel. Sometimes I want to wait until the pain is more sustained, then go and get it checked out. When I first saw a doctor for my symptoms a year before the pregnancy, he said it was acid reflux, although I had no heartburn. I will never forget how low and angry he made me feel ? like I was a hysterical female. I wouldn?t go to a doctor again for a year. I finally got a grip and went to see a cardio on my own volition. He did an echo next day and properly diagnosed me. He was a good doc.

Rarely, I have irrational thoughts like let ?it? happen ? and then I feel extremely guilty thinking about my children without me. I know deep down that I would always do the right thing. But I have my moments. Why? I don't know, gang. I guess I'm hurting in more ways than one. I won't get into my personal problems, but suffice to say that things aren't going well at the moment, and it's taking a toll, both physically and psychologically. I've thought about talking to someone at our church, but then again, it would only make me feel better, it wouldn't solve our problems or cure my health issues. (Can you believe .com millionaires have issues? Ha).

I know this is sharing personal stuff in a very public way, and my old-fashion, WASPY parents would be petrified.

Bottom line, I need to get a grip and keep my head above water, so to speak. I hope you understand and will forgive me for being so candid. If I feel like I did last Friday, I assure you that I'll get it checked out! When I feel that pain, I know something's not right.

Here's my new motto:

?Damn the torpedoes, Full speed ahead!"

Admiral David Glasgow Farragut (1801-1870). Aboard Hartford, Farragut entered Mobile Bay, Alabama, 5 August 1864, in two columns, with armored monitors leading and a fleet of wooden ships following. When the lead monitor Tecumseh was demolished by a mine, the wooden ship Brooklyn stopped, and the line drifted in confusion toward Fort Morgan. As disaster seemed imminent, Farragut gave the orders embodied by these famous words. He swung his own ship clear and headed across the mines, which failed to explode. The fleet followed and anchored above the forts, which, now isolated, surrendered one by one. The torpedoes to which Farragut and his contemporaries referred would today be described as tethered mines.

Peace,

Bonnie,

What you described seems like what I also experienced! Frightening! What causes an aneurysm? Were you symptom free except when you had the sudden pain?

A nuclear stress test shows circulation in your Coronary Arteries during exertion as you walk on a treadmill. The speed and incline are increased every 3 minutes. Your EKG, Heart Rate, and Blood Pressure are monitored throughout the test. The goal is to get your heart rate up to 'target range', inject the radio active dye, and have you keep walking for another minute to allow the dye to fully circulate. Then you lay on a hard flat table while a moving detector takes 3D images of your heart. It takes roughly 20 minutes to get the full set of images. You may need to return for another set of 'resting' images, depending on what they see from the first images.

Been there, done that (MANY times),

Thanks Al!
The cardiologists' office said I would be there 4-5 hours. I can't imagine! They did say no caffiene 24 hours prior. It does seem like an easier way to look at arteries than the heart cath. Less invasive anyway. I wonder if they had this test 3 years ago, before my valve surgery, when they were checking my arteries then?

Yes, Nuclear Stress Testing has been around for a LONG time.

I gives an 'overall' view to see if there is any area of the heart that is not getting sufficient blood flow. It is good non-invasive 'first step' to determine if there is circulation problem. A catheterization and angiogram is necessary to pinpoint the exact locaton and degree of blockage if a circulation problem is seen. As you probably know, the catheterization is more invasive (and expensive !)
