My wifes cousin Becky was recently diagnosed with Leukemia and has just finished her first round of Chemo. If you will, please say a prayer or two for her along with your others.

Thank You!

I'm truly sorry to hear this news, Ross. My son's mother passed from AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia), some years ago. However, there have been some treatment improvements and new directions since then.

Do you know which type she has?

Ross, I certainly will put Becky on the top of my prayer list. What kind of leukemia does she have? How old is she? You know Zazzy and I have CML (chronic myeloid leukemia) and are both on the miracle drug "Gleevec." Zazzy is in remission and I was for about eight months but mine has started growing again. My oncologist has upped my dosage in hopes that we can get it down before my AVR June 2. It depends on what kind of leukemia she has, but there is hope for us nowdays.

Thank you all. I don't know what type, in fact I know very little. The family isn't being forthcoming with talking about it, so all I know at this point is what I've posted. I'll try to find out, but with this family, I may never know.

By the way, she is 42.

Ross,
I am sorry to hear about your wife's cousin. I will keep her in my daily prayers. I hope that she has a treatable form.

Ross,

Of course prayers will be sent "up" for your wife's cousin.

As for the prognosis of leukemia, it is not necessarily a death sentence these days as the others have said. Ryan O'Neal has leukemia and has had it for many years and is doing wonderfully. I also have a distant relative who had it 15 (?) years ago and is still going strong! Gleevac is a miracle drug and there are others.

When Mom had her breast cancer, I did SO much research on the internet and from what I gathered, leukemia is one cancer that can be beaten these days, unlike lung or pancreatic, which are very scary cancers.

I think you are going to see modern medicine at work here - there is hope!!

Ross, consider it done. I will be praying for your family and hoping for a good outcome.

Ross, you've got it...prayers are being sent. The power of prayer is huge. I have wittnessed it with myself, my father and the little girl, Macall. All are absolute miracles!! The doctors can't explain it, so you know that God had taken over and was the Doctor.

Best wishes to her and all of the family!!

Ross,
I'm so sorry to hear this news about your wife's cousin. I'll hold you all close to my heart as you find your way through this troubling time.

Ross,
I wasn't much of a believer in prayer until about 4 years ago when my sister's husband got lymphoma. He is in remission now and runs marathons for charity as a hobby. Since then, I've been reminded many times how POWERFUL prayer can be; this board has many who can attest to the same.

I will certainly keep Becky and your family in my thoughts and prayers. I also hope that there is an on-line community of leukemia patients that is as caring as VR is!

Hey Ross,
Sorry to hear this about your wife's cousin. You all will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Take Care

You all are, of course, in my prayers, Ross.

If you remember our dear Zazzy, she had several things go wrong besides her valve, one of them being lukemia. That was several yrs ago - she was a member of this forum when I joined more than 4 yrs now. She was given gleevec (or kleevec) and is in remission, last I talked to her. I have heard this is a wonderful medicine. Maybe there is hope for Becky. Don't give up.

prayers

So many people here have had their prayers answered so, you can be sure that it will be the same for your wife's cousin. I'll also be praying for her every day

Ross,

I will surely keep her in my prayers. My mother-in-law is still taking chemo herself for lung cancer. The cancer has not grown, but it also has not gotten any smaller. Prayers are helping, but chemo sure take a toll on the rest of the body.

ditto on the prayers and good thoughts from me. The leukemia/lymphomas are mostly quite treatable - others much scarier. So depair has no place here - and yes, the chemo will make her feel much worse than the cancer (been there, done that), and is really scary, but is worth the risk and discomfort.

Best to all of you.

Dee I'm a firm believer in miracles. I'm one of those miracles 2 times over as most people here already know.

It sure doesn't hurt to have extras being said and this group of people seem to get great results.

Ross,

Anytime you hear the word "cancer" it scares the puddin' out of you. I'll never forget hearing it. I've never been so scared... or prayed so hard. My baby Sara was only a year old.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.
