Peri - did your brother sort out getting a Medic Alert tag?
I'm starting to wonder if it's really necessary to register with them specifically, rather than getting a tag engraved and having a wallet card detailing essential info.
Jim's written to his surgeon requesting specific info on his valve (serial no. and model - we think it's the Slimline but are awaiting confirmation, as it's been 2 weeks since he wrote I think a phone call may be in order).
Seems like it'd be easier and cheaper to just get a tag made ourselves - there's a UK site I found that has quite a good range: http://www.medicaltags.co.uk/index.html but if you do a google search for "medic alert" it brings up a ton of other sites - than waiting to get the info from the surgeon. "Aortic valve replaced, taking coumadin" or "Mechanical aortic valve, taking coumadin - see wallet" is really all the paramedics would need to be aware of in the first instance - other meds, date of surgery, hospital name and no, emergency contact, etc could be on wallet card.
Gemma.
