How long is the lease on the Waiting Room?

Hi Knights-

Judging from what I've seen in hospital and doctor's offices re: magazines, I'd say your grandmother already had donated all of her magazines to them, at least here in upstate NY. Did she have a lot of Reader's Digests and National Goes from say, the 1960s?

As long as you keep all the magazines as obscure and old as possible, it should feel just about right.

Also rip out all the last pages of the articles. Finding out the ending could be damaging to your health. And rip off some of the covers, so no one will know what they're getting into.

Just some constructive ideas. :p :p

Yeah, and I want to know how all the doctors get subscriptions to last year's magazines. Must be some sort of reduced rate for them. . .

OK, Cort, here's the scoop. The contractor said that multi-level parking structures are too costly. He did, however, suggest a single story garage, with a large attached carport. That way we can have all-season parking with some indoor storage and workspace for the classics and for those like myself who are a bit eccentric about their vehicles.

As to the wide-screen TV, if anyone has noticed, the prices are beginning to come down. Roughly 1/2 to 1/3 of last year's prices. I am willing to do the installation myself, just for the experience. I can also do the sound system to go with it, antennas, cabling, etc. Anybody interested in connecting it as a large screen computer monitor, too?

I'm surprised that you haven't installed a THX Surround Sound System in there yet. That would go good with the big screen and movies. ;)

There's a used magazine saleperson who calls on all the doctors. They make more money than the pill salespeople. Their overhead is minimal. They just have to pilfer the recycling bins on garbage day. :D

Enough of magazines and garages - I am getting hungry! Where is the kitchenette going to be built? Once built, I promise to stock it with kinds of heart-healthy goodies (and a few boxes of Junior Mints. . .can never have too many Junior Mints).

Yum!

Could we set aside some room for a treadmill maybe? We have to keep in shape for possible future surgery. Also can we have satellite hooked up to the wide screen tv? I can't go without my HBO.....lol.

I know, park the treadmill in front of the tv, at least that is what I do at home:D

Well I think this waiting room is probably the best anywhere!

We should add the beepers (you know the kind with the vibrators on them and the little red lights) so we can contact a family member who has wandered off if he is needed.

Hey Steve - Great to hear you had a super report from the docs. BY now you are almost a permanent fixture in the waiting room and I'm sure all the other "quickly passing throughs" are benifitting from your expertise. Those magazines I borrowed were all issues of "Healthy Eating" . Nancy and I are trying to spruce up the recipe section of the site. Remember - YOU ARE WHAT YOU EAT. We are finding some SEXY recipies for you to eat. (so you'll be sexy- and even more importantly healthy) We've gotten a few new recipies documented, but we need some help from all the members to make this section of the site a more frequently visited area. As you know, writing recipies is sorta like Elizabeth Taylor's 5th husband - I know what to do, but I don't now how to make it interesting ! Chris

*sighs*

So many things to discuss, so precious little time. But, plug on, I will :).

*pauses*

Disclaimer: I hope people are taking this all for what it is...great comic relief. I know many of us are suffering with many different heart and non-heart related issues and I certainly do not mean to belittle those issues. But, at the same time, I do believe this type of comic relief helps us all :).

*straightens up in the computer chair and begins tackling the new issues that have developed while I was away*

Re Magazines ... Nancy, LOL! I can _proudly_ say that those are not my grandmother's magazines. Most of hers are home- and inspirational-related. Keep in mind, she was the wife of a pastor :). Then again, my aunt and I did find some, ahem, questionable stuff....LOL! And, I do very much appreciate your ideas. Tearing out some pages will also help us to save space...and create more space for more magazines...which I'm sure those in the Waiting Room would definitely enjoy on those cold winter nights. Speaking of which.......

Re Fire place ... Steve, did you ask the contractor about the fire place? It _is_ going to be included, right? Or, did you forget about that, too? ;).

Re Garage ... Now, Steve, I don't like the plans for this...very unsatisfactory...at least to me...ya know, just the biggest car nut here :). Altho, I must admit, the contractor's comments/ideas seem to be just right for what we need.....I spose we could make that work. Of course, tho, since I had to remind you of this...my Monte Carlos get the best parking places year round ;).

Re Wide Screen TV ... Yep, I noticed the prices had gone down...and, of course, I can get an extra discount if we purchase one at Sears. As for the installation, Steve, that'd be great if you'd do that for us :). And, I do like the computer monitor suggestion, too....

Re Surround Sound System ... Gosh darn it, Ross, why'd ya hafta go and mess up my plans for a surprise ;).

Re Treadmill ... Absolutely! A fantastic idea! Lisa, I _believe_ (course, we'd have to check with Steve), that the contractor has in his plans to install a few treadmills along with a TV for each. I can't guarantee the cable, but we certainly could look into that....

Re Kitchenette ... Melissa, it is going to be built just off the main room, I believe. Again, we'd have to check with Steve to be sure.... And, it won't be just a "kitchenette". I thought that the plans were for a full-fledged kitchen, but maybe not...? At any rate, plenty of space for all types of goodies. We just gotta find a great cook or 2, especially if Chris & Nancy get that recipe book ready for us ;). And, for the record, I agree about the junior mints!

Re Beepers ... Betty, another fabulous idea! These could also be part of the PA/security system that is being considered....

*Pauses to re-review posts*

Phew...I believe I got everything.... If not, more tomorrow ;).

Cort must be composing his replies in split-screen mode, so he doesn't miss a point. Somehow, as we age, we seem more likely to miss something. . . but I forgot what it is. . .

Hope nobody is disappointed -- but NO CABLE. I have an aversion to the poor quality cable and installation they habitually perform, and to the local disturbances that always seem to shut it down whenever it rains. That said, I think a high-definition satellite link should do just fine! We have had the "ordinary" (not high definition) version for several years, and it is great. So, when ours is delivered, I can work with the installers to integrate it all.

Work calls -- later!

LOL!

Nope...no split screen here.... I'm just, as the numbers thingy Ross posted says, a good communicator :).

As for the cable...not disappointed here.... I'm living without it now, so no big deal.... Then again, the satellite sounds great :).

Hmmm...I C we're getting more recipes for that kitchen....I sure hope we got the full-fledged kitchen approved for this grand place :).
