Thank you. Everyone.

Thank you. Everyone.

I am so glad I started writing to all of you all. You are the sweetest people I know. I did need the support and the sympathy. I consider myself a very sensitive person and I try to treat people the way I want to be treated. I want you all to know, besides my mother and sister, I have never had anyone be so kind to me. I thank you all again. God Bless.

MBerge4527 : Thanks for the info. I tell you what I am suffering everyday from anxiety attacks that are unreal. Then I take ativan, and it usually helps. The blood pressue medicine is making me more tired than I was. You know I used to have panic attacks when I was a teenager and just found out that it was a disease recently and most likely part of this valve problem also. I used to be so scared to go to public places by myself or whenever I had a job interview, before they even called my name I would have went through the motions of chest pain, sweating, just peer horror. And I still can't drive because I am a nervous wreck behind the wheel. I guess that is a panic attack also. And I never told anyone because I thought there was something mentally wrong with me. I guess I should have told someone now. And I still havn't told any doctor. I will mention it next time I go. Thanks Again.

Heather Fisher : My husband is in remission, and they said they got it all and he didn't have to have chemo or radiation therapy. Thank God.

Thanks, JimL for the periodontal info.

SHerrin Hutt : Thanks for everything and I will look for that book.

Again, Thank everyone for there support and sympathy and information.

Blake, You hang in there and make sure you tell your Dr everything. They really need to know about the panic attacks and all. Keep us updated, we all do care.

I knew I read it in a lot of places.

Mitral valve problems can be associated with anxiety or panic attacks. It's a true medical thing. So do not be afraid of telling your doctor about it. It may be part of your heart condition afterall.

Here are a couple of articles which indicate this. They are about mitral valve prolapse, but also mention that that condition can progress to mitral regurgitation. And the association with anxiety or panic attacks is mentioned in both articles, as well as a lot of others on Google.

There are a number of steroid asthma medications that can cause valve problems if used frequently in high doses....

I have two friends who have that, not serious enough to warrant valve replacement (at least not yet) but their years of asthma meds have taken a toll on their hearts.... They're about the same age as me, 30 something.

Gum desease alone probably didn't contribute much to your heart condition. Periocarditis is an infection of the membrane that surrounds the heart, the periacardum (I don't think I spelled that right) and it causes fluid to build up between the sack and the heart itself which puts a LOT of pressure on the heart as it's trying to beat. It can be quite fatal, almost crushing or strangeling the heart and often leads to extreme measures like heart transplant to treat depending on how late it's caught. Chances are such an infection didn't affect your valves at all, your heart would be in MUCH worse shape by that point and they wouldn't be talking about valve replacement so much as HEART replacement...

If you or your doctors suspect CHF then you should ask about diuretics. They're pretty good with lowering the amount of fluid in your system which eases the workload on your heart and will help the SOB as well. If it's really severe now they might admit you at least overnight for IV diuretics then set you on a pill regime before sending you home. Changes in diet, drastically cutting back on salt and sodium, will help that too.
Personally, I advocate throwing out the salt shaker all together, but that's just me. =)

Oh, gargling with warm saltwater is a simple treatment for gum disease and it doesn't have much affect on your fluid retention unless you swallow the salt water instead of spitting it out after gargling....

Personally, I can't see ingesting salt water as a good thing to do, eewww... =)

I doubt the poor circulation is a cause for the disc problems. Generally that's a mechanical thing, parts wearing down either from heavy use/abuse or infections specifically in the joints (or arthritis) Poor circulation will make your legs sore at times, aching almost. If you're on diuretics you may get similar effects and or cramps from a lack of potassium which the diruetics have a tendency to flush out of your system. There are some diuretics and other meds that help combat that. Personally, I have a lot of orange juice and bananas when I can. Apricots are good for that too.

Sorry to hear about your brother, kind of hard to have everything pop up at once like that... Sure it can't be much fun for the rest of your family...
