From Italy! I have OHS on 17th of April! Sever Aortic stenosis

Hi all,
I am 63M and writing from Italy. On April 17th, I will undergo open-heart surgery for the replacement of my severely calcified aortic valve. I have decided to go with a mechanical valve, probably the ON-X. I hope to find good advice on this forum.

ho 48 anni, anche io italiana, e a causa della mia bicuspidia dovrò scegliere come risolvere il problema della valvola aortica con stenosi
: tra Ozaki (e poi prevedendo una tavi con valvola biologica e poi sperare di trovare qualche altra soluzione meno invasiva) o valvola meccanica che sarebbe più risolutiva nel senso di meno interventi previsti (mi hanno consigliato la ON-X)
. In bocca al lupo per il tuo intervento. Da quel che ho letto sui vari forum devi cercare di sprecare meno tempo possibile a preoccuparti, perchè la mente si immagina le situazioni più spaventose possibili, e la realtà è molto diversa.

Anche io ho chiesto per Ozaki ma purtroppo sono troppo avanti con l'eta così mi hanno detto all'ospedale Monzino di Milano. Ci sono studi retrospettivi a 15 anni per l'ozaki molto promettenti. Da come ho capito il rischio è il rigurgito oppure l'Endocardite.

Ah strano, a me è stato detto che sono troppo giovane per la Ozaki (48 anni). e che quindi prospettando con la Ozaki una durata di 10/15 dovrei mettere poi una biologica arrivare ad altri 10/15 anni, circa 75 anni circa ea quel punto dovrei farne un'altra (sperando ci sia qualcosa di meglio e meno invasivo di una operazione a cuore aperto). Per questo motivo il Prof del Monzino mi consigliava la meccanica
Mentre il dott. Albertini, anche lui effettua la Ozaki ormai di routine, e me la consiglia vivamente (se non voglio la meccanica e sono pronta al rischio di successivi interventi).

ok, so let me ask you "why" ... I mean engineering asks "how" science asks "why"

So, why am I asking you why? Well in my own history on the case of my 3rd OHS, in preparation on that I spent a short time (and I mean that) doing some reading and I found this:

Subsequently I woke to find that the ATS had been installed. I was in no way disappointed because I trusted my surgeon and the team of that hospital (who had done my previous surgeries. Dr Jalali mentioned (when I asked) that he'd chosen the ATS because it came with a pre-attached aortic graft and (at that time) the On-X did not (in Australia it had not yet passed regulatory control); this enabled a shortened time on the pump in an already long surgery.

Much later I found that ATS also provided me a Coaguchek (which I also knew nothing about at that time).

Over the years (and to validate my answers) my suspicion of the validity of the On-X claims revealed that there was quite a discrepancy between "what they claim" (in marketing) and what they measurably deliver.

Interesting ... yes the On-X is the only one that says it opens to 90 (yet it doesn't)

I would encourage you to read that post and pay attention to where I've coloured red. You'll notice that my own ATS does not open as far as its specs are, but I'm not concerned; mostly because ATS never claimed that its opening angles were part of its "special sauce" and On-X did ...
