Been there, done that. A long time ago at 3 weeks post op my INR dropped to 1.9 and so my nurse daughter had the pleasure of stabbing me, and I never felt a thing.....Was I ripped off?

Also: To find out if you have a Coaguchek friendly pharmacy in your area,
just call Roche Diagnostics in Quebec and a rep will give you the locations.

Not at all. It's just cool cause your expecting this big sting that never happens. You really need to inject yourself. A real adrenaline rush.

Out west here in Vancouver it is the London Drugs chain that has the Coaguchek franchise. They give the training at the store and have one INR machine "expert" to assist with new strip or lancet orders should there be a question. So far everything has been smooth sailing here EXCEPT that my wife's insurance refuses to cover either the machine or the strips (Great West Life):(.

The pharmact technician who showed me how to use the monitor had the setting at 5. Thats where I will start when I do it on my own for the first time next Wednesday.

I'm going to have to keep a log though so I remember from week to week which finger on which hand I used last so I don't repeat it twicw in a row. I used to be able to remember taht kind os detail but not so much these days. I'll blame it on surgery because age can't possibly have anything to do with it.

I always use the same finger when testing & I test once a week or sometimes, every two weeks if my INR seems to be stable. I thought at first that my finger would get sore after a while but it does not, so I have no problem using the same one all the time.

The info that I make sure to log down & I use a calendar that has the big daily blocks ---- I write down what my INR was & the daily dosages for all that week. If my INR compares or somewhat in the same range as last week, I'll write down the same dosages for the coming week & then test at the end of the week.

I believe your monitor keeps the INR readings in memory too but I prefer writing them down where they are readily visable to me.

Have fun! :)

There is no need to alternate fingers. Actually, it's better to use the same one, because after a while, it's no longer sensitive to the punctures.

Thats good to know since I was told to change fingers with each test. It pays to listen to those who have gone on before me. That means less for me to remember. (Oh yeah excuse all my typos in the last post - typing is not my strong suit).

I hope sticking my finger goes better than my typing.

Yeah! I did it.

Yeah! I did it.

I did my first home test today and only ruined one strip. Not bad for a novice. My INR is within range...so I only have to test once a week now (hopefully every second week soon.)
