well, yesterday I was stupid enough to drive myself to the bookstore and back and sit in a regular chair for a few hours at my neighbors birthday party.... man, am I paying for it today!!! The pain is way worse!! I can't believe it! This is FIVE days after my cath and I'm still a convalescent. I've been sitting around reading all day long. Can't even play my guitar!! (a certain kind of hell for people like me)
Yes, that was me who was going to give lessons that same day. I guess I was a little naive. Now I'm nervous because I absolutely have to give lessons on Tuesday night and Wednesday all day long. I hope this pain is relieved by then. I won't exactly be resting tommorow (driving to San Fransisco to meet the surgeon!) My boyfriend was unable to find the phone number of his teacher (he's a student teacher at an elementary school) to get the day off to drive me. Depending on how I feel in the morning, I might make him call in sick!
Anyway, you're all right, I'm hoping this sums up my "complications" for the year. This means my surgery will go easy and I'll be jogging by the third week (oh yeah, I hate to jog!!)
bye!

Hello Elana,

I've have MANY cath's. Only one time did I have
any problems. I went back to work too soon, sitting
in my office most of the day and developed a HUGE
Hematoma (bleeding under the skin) which required
another week off for rehabilitation.

You DO NOT want to go there!

If at all possible, find someone else to drive you.
Also, get out and walk every hour, even if someone
else does the driving.

Elena,

I can certainly relate to that. I've spent 30 years teaching. Half of that time I have taught Orthopedically Handicapped. What a great person for a benevolent person like myself! :D I can play Helen Keller's teacher and Florence Nightingale all at once.

Adjusting to valve disease, surgery, and a period of recovery has been tough. I don't like being on the receiving end, I want to be in control.

Once the surgery was done, I began to feel better every day. There will be time for me to resume my old role (or a new one) later. There woulnd't have been that opportunity if I hadn't had the surgery.

I hope you find a ride!
