As a confirmed couch potato I was wondering if there might be any interest in a Couch Potato ThrowDown ... not a competition but just reporting in and supporting each other in a quest for more activity and better health ... I will never be a weight lifter, runner, jogger, downhill skier, row boater, the list goes on ... but I have started walking again and so far have stayed with it four days in a row ... I don't plan for my walking to evolve into a triathlon but I would like to make a lifestyle change and stick with it ... I also consider raking the yard as exercise and I'm sure there are other activities that you may enjoy that would be good exercise if we would just get off our butts and do it ...
We have a lot of athletes on Valvereplacement.org that I am sure will be able to give us advice on starting slow, what to expect, what to do about sore muscles etc we would welcome any encouragement and advice they might share ...
I started with a three mile walk that takes me about an hour ... really splitting the wind, not:biggrin2: ... I already feel better, sleep better and I'm hoping it will help me to shed a few more pounds ... speaking about losing pounds, this is not a weight loss thread ... it is just a thought I had that it may help people like myself to stick with whatever activity we may choose ... I need accountability in most areas in my life and keeping up with exercise is one where I definitely need a good prodding ...
If anyone is interested I purpose a weekly thread to be be posted in the Throwdown forum for us to report in and share out success and struggles ... just let me know ....
