I was down another fraction of a lb this morning. I've been at this for over a year now and have reached the point where I rarely lose whole pounds week to week.

I weigh myself every morning and plot it on a chart. The daily graph is jagged with ups and downs of a couple lbs from any one day to the next. So what I do is plot a moving average under the daily. That's the average of the preceding 7 days so it smooths out the jaggies and shows a true trend line. If I only looked at the daily line I'd get very discouraged thinking I've hit a never ending plateau, but the moving average, even with small wobbles, shows a slow and steady decline. It keeps my head in the game.

Good job Jack!!......Downward Ho!!!!.....I have also started weighing every day but looking at the overall weekly results....The ups and downs of daily weighing at times make me mad but I need that......It is every easy for me assume things are going in the right direction when they are not.

Cindy lost 1.4 lbs. this week (total on WW of 8.4)

Wise lost 2.2 lbs. this week (total on WW of 7.2)

You guys are doing great on Weight Watchers! Our local paper had a feature recently on "biggest losers" hereabouts, and I noticed the majority of them were on WW. Maybe Superbob should consider supplementing his superpowers with Weight Watchers. Anyway, congrats to you both. Is point-counting suspended for Kentucky Derby? :D

What a bunch of losers you all are. Good job!

I'm back to working out after not doing so for 5 days. My daughter got home from France and moved to NC yesterday, so we spent a lot of time shopping and preparing for her move. (And now I'm a sad Mommy - I hate having my children so far away.:( :( :( )

She hid the scale on me because she said I'm not supposed to weigh - just eat right and workout and be happy with that. This is coming from a 6 foot 140 pound gorgeous 22 year old - she'll know my struggles one day.;)

I ordered the new Wii Fit workout addition to our Wii game console. It's due out at the end of May, and I look forward to adding that to my Wii fitness fun.

I wish I could get on a exercise kick and stay on it…..How do you do it?....North Carolina is a beautiful state with lots to do.... I hope she will love it….And you should jump on a plane once a month for a visit and to see the sights!!!.....And if you do remember the Chimp is only a vine swing away:eek:

Superbob - Well, no, point counting is still on for the Kentucky Derby. WW gives you and additional 35 points each week that you can opt to use or not. I may use some of mine tomorrow. Cindy rarely uses any of hers (she's ahead of me in weight loss).

Bob, a good thing about WW is that it works even when you are temporarily restricted in physical activity. It is very flexible and there are a LOT of good recipes that help make it interesting. You can even fit in a scone here and there, if you plan for it.

Cooker - Yes, we sure do love WW. It has really clicked with us this time. The program has become so flexible and easy to follow.

I've done WW on and off for about 20 years now and it has changed considerably over that time. They were highly criticized by independent research as ineffective a couple times in the 80s and 90s, but they continued to make changes based on real nutrition research to arrive where they are today. I think they actually hired a couple of their harshest critics. Can you imagine Exxon/Mobile or GE doing that?

They make modifications to their plans every year introducing any new rules or procedures on January 1st and holding them that way for at least the year before making any new plan changes. I'm sure the main reason for that is because of all the printed materials, marketing and promotional output. But it lets them introduce food plan modifications based on any new research.

The core foods plan only came around very recently in 2004. The points system was implemented somewhere in the late 90s. And I'm not sure when they started to embrace exercise, but it's relatively recent as well. Before that they counted food categories. You had an allotment "breads", "meats" and "dairies" to check off each day. You had to learn that this much pasta was equal to so many breads and some things were half a bread and half a meat. I mean, what is Tofu anyway? I always thought is was just a lump of wet Kleenex. It got crazy at times.

If you go back to the 80s WW was no different than many other fad diets and very restrictive to boot. The plan started out week #1 with near starvation. It was not unusual to drop 10 or more lbs in the first week. Week #2 they eased off a bit and allowed a little more and after a few more weeks settled into the long term allotments. There were many foods that were strictly off limits permanently. Mayonnaise was one, which is why you here stories about people eating tuna mixed with mustard. And like I said, if any of them ever exercised you'd never have known it.

Jack, this was interesting reading....thanks......Nothing stays the same and if it does it usually dies.

one reason many diets don't work is that it forces people into eating in a way they will rarely maintain once they reach their goal weight. WW has made a good faith effort to really keep up with current science.

My Dad was a type 2 diabetic, and I think I inherited his love of carbohydrates and insulin resistance. So I just keep telling myself that I have to be good because it has more to do with my health than my size.

This Throw Down has been the best tool so far, because whether I post weight loss or gain, for some reason it keeps me accountable.

As reported last week I had a SUBSTANTIAL GAIN while on vacation:eek: ....3 meals a day for nine days comes out to twenty-seven meals, each meal I'm sure met or exceeded my daily WW point allotment:eek: ....But do not fear!!!!....I have recently submitted a patent for "Cooker's Quick Purge" .....which is fast acting and "prune free":p ....The results speak for themselves.......

Starting weight........233
Last Week...................211.5
This week....................204
Weekly Change............-7.5
Total Loss......................29

WOW! Great going! I've been out of town more than I've been home the last couple of weeks so I was more than pleased to have stayed the same for the last two weeks. I was really amazed when I got on the scales since I'm obviously carrying some (alot) of water weight. I don't know when I was so excited about "nothing".

Hi everyone,
I haven't posted for about a month due to various and sundry excuses.....but alas, I have not been very good about the diet and exercise and have gained 3 pounds!

Starting weight: 182.5
Las time I posted 164 (I think)
This morning: 167

So, while I am still down overall, I have to get back to eating right and exercising!!!

Karlynn, I totally agree with you about how valuable this forum is in keeping me accountable (when I was off-line for almost a month, I gained weight!!!!)

Here's to weekly accountability!!!!

It happens....you will drop it and be on the downward path this week for sure.....Thanks for sticking with us:)

I had a Kentucky Derby party victory!

I, for once, was in control. I estimated my points as best I could. I was almost at my daily points max after I finished eating. Then I had a good size piece of homemade strawberry cake. I'm sure I didn't use all of my weekly points.

Anyway, this morning I weighed a pound less than yesterday morning. I'm not saying I'm down for the week, but after a Derby party being down at all is a big turnaround for me! :D
