Gosh, Wise, I wonder if there might be something else helping to cause the problem. Like, maybe you've suddenly increased your white rice, or potato, or hidden white flour cereal consumption this summer? Something that you do repeatedly that has caused things to skyrocket? Honeyed ice tea?

The book, You on a Diet discusses blood sugar really well, as I remember. I think you should consider what you ate this summer that might have been high in carbs that are actually sugar. I can't imagine that you have to cut out sweets forever!

Anyway, just a thought.

Happy 50th if I miss the real day!!!! and, speaking from a 55 year old -- don't even worry -- it's all down hill from here on out. But it's a fun slide!! ;)

We were watching a funny movie earlier this evening, which was a good thing because I needed the laughs after my PCP called. He called with blood work results. My glucose was 115, my vitamin D was low, my thyroid function was low, and my triglycerides were 174. My cholesterol had improved from last blood work. My glucose has never not been normal. The hypothyroidism was new as well, as was the low vitamin D.

So, I was told not to eat sugar, limit carbohydrates including fruit, consume no juice, and walk every day.

In a few days I will hit the big 50. What a present, huh?

Well my almost constant fatigue and tiredness makes a little more sense now. I'm not meaning this post as a pity party. Just sharing what happened. I have a feeling I will be able to keep going in the right direction with weight loss after treating the hypothyroidism and getting the sugar level back below 100.

Sugar is an addiction for me. I wish I could say differently. This is not even a blip on the radar of health issues represented here, but if you think of it, prayers would be appreciated that I can tolerate a sugarless existence.

Thanks for "listening."
Hi wise ... Sorry you are having these issues ... SuperBob seems to be very knowledge about sugar issues and I think a second opinion never hurts and may provide peace of mind ... I also read where 15 minutes of sunlight a day provides the vitamin D we need ... You are in my prayers...

Oh, turning 50 is a piece of cake, oops, sorry:p;)

This is why I love the Throwdown. You can get good information and be entertained all at the same time!

Thanks guys and gal for the advice.

Superbob, I really do think that I eat balanced meals that my next reading will be totally normal. Thanks for your common sense input. I would like to have some of the links you mentioned earlier, i.e. good fruits, etc.

I don't eat many bananas so it won't be a problem to donate any future bananas to the Chimp.

I used to have You On A Diet, but I donated it to a Dirty Santa party. I thought it had good information. I didn't pay a lot of attention to the sugar info at the time, I guess. I think that a diet with a heavy Mediterranean emphasis isn't one I like that well, but I should learn to like it better.

I will now go and get ready for my downhill slide right after I eat my piece of cake. ;)

Hi Wise,
Like the others, I'm sorry you got bummed out with these test results. Look at the bright side...you are almost normal so a bit of tweaking and you should be there again. Having a low thyroid certainly could make you tired and sabotage your weight loss efforts. Correct it and then see how you do. I'm glad your doc cared enough to give you a call. I've got a few like that I plan on holding on to. Hope you soon feel better, Wise.

Thanks Betty. I also think that correcting the thyroid issue will help me out the most. I'm going to pick up a prescription in a bit for that purpose. Also, I did appreciate the call; it was close to 7:30, so I was surprised he called that late. He's a very nice Swedish man, Dr. Jonsson.
