o.k.
I guess I'll go for the bed pan. It'll be a new experience anyway, can't say I've ever used a bed pan!

anyway, thanks for the advice! (I guess I knew that about the water... it's never a good idea to dehydrate oneself on purpose!)

When you gotta go... you gotta go

When you gotta go... you gotta go

I ended up having to use the bed pan too... not an experience I remember as being enjoyable......but I absolutely HATE the feeling of a full bladder. I put it off as long as I could, but eventually decided the relief I would feel would be worth the embarrassment. I know I laid there for at least 4 hours, and I just couldn't stand it anymore.

BTW, when they tell you to lie flat, they don't want you moving at all! I kept getting yelled at for lifting my head off the pillow, I just did it without thinking, to look a the clock, or to talk to someone.

I would DEFINITELY have someone bring you, it seems to me they didn't want me to drive after the procedure... and it helps to have someone keep you company while you're laying there staring at the ceiling!

Catherization

I was scheduled at noon for the TEE and then the angiogram. They put in a cardioseal so I only had to lay for 2 hrs. Was on the road and home by 4:00 pm. We also stopped for a bite to eat. Had this on a Wed. and I didn't go to work until Friday. I was a little sore from the procedure and did bruise but I have had much worse. Good luck to you,

When you use the bed pan, make sure you have it positioned correctly, otherwise you will end-up peeing on yourself.

I thought guys used the other thing with the handle when they had to go. I know we took one home from the hospital that he is going to put in the boat. I could never go on the bed pan but desperation calls for desperate measures.

Yes it has a handle but the opening is shaped tp be used in one position.

..also don't wait until you are about to pop. Your bed will be padded so your linen won't get all wet but, even though bedpans have a good capacity, a pretty full bedpan can spill over the side pretty easier and you will feel more comfortable if you stay dry.

Elena-

My goodness! Elena, just tell them you want to go to the bathroom before they take you to the cath lab. You'll be fine. And you guys have always had the easy end of this stick - no whining allowed!:D

Don't forget to take something to read with you. All they have at my cardio's office is Golf Digest and AARP. I'm thinking of taking a Vogue or Glamour to leave there - shake those old guys up some!
