Can't stop bleeding will have to hold warfarin for awhile

I've had a couple of surgeries since my valve was put in (mitral) and in each case my surgeon was comfortable with my INR at around 2.0. I was fairly comfortable with that idea as well, though I was anxious to get it back up as soon as possible. So, I guess what I'm saying is that when you're...

Will someone please help? What range do you have to be in INR for surgery????

FWIW I've had 2 procedures since my valve replacement - in both cases the doc was fine with me at 2.0.

Which Multivitamin Do You Take? Should it Have Vitamin K Included?

I take a multivitamin with 50 mcg vitamin k AND a vitamin K supplement of 100 mcg. Helps me maintain stability. Otherwise my levels are very sensitive to dietary changes.

    1.1?!!!!

HAHAHAHA!!! Hopefully Protimenow's INR has reached a safe level. If nothing else this reinforces, as least for me, the importance of weekly testing. Even though I take supplemental Vit K to keep my levels steadier so I can more easily stay in range, I am still highly susceptible to INR changes...

    (Dried) blood in ear

You should probably see a doctor - but if that's not in the cards, I'd go to the drugstore & ask for ear irrigation stuff. The last thing you want to do is reopen the wound with swabs or something similar.

    1.1?!!!!

So, I am curious, what's your status now? Were you able to get a new test or new warfarin?

    is this normal?

Thought I'd chime in here - that area, which is trying to heal, generates a fair amount of fluid. In my case it hung around for a long time. When I saw the chiropractor for my back he recommended that I massage that area to help disperse the fluid. Worked wonderfully.

    What is your INR target?

My range is 2.5-3.5 for mitral valve. I tend to stay on the high side, or maybe just a tad higher. I always thought that the recommendation for someone with mitral AND aortic was 3.0-4.0.

Could anticoagulants contribute to Macular Degeneration / blindness?

I think I would have made the same decision with that sort of family history. Makes sense not to put yourself through the additional risk.

    Minor procedure complicated by Warfarin.

Yeah, that Lovenox is funny stuff. Obviously does an effective job of preventing clots... sometimes too good!

    Warfrin and Anti Inflammatory Drugs

I use naproxen sodium on a regular basis during the summer so I can play golf. I haven't had any issues with bleeding... at least so far. My doc would probably have a fit but what he doesn't know won't hurt him.
