Four kids later, finally took the plunge to permanently stop having more. Snip snip.

Bridged with Lovanox and followed instructions on restarting Warfarin. Two days later still bleeding pretty good. Didn't rest as much as I should have, but resting now. Should I look at lowering dose till bleeding stops? Chowing on a head of lettuce? Other ideas? I'll call my coumadin clinic as well, but I know we have more experience in here than they do.

My regular dose was 6mg daily. Last INR was 2.5. Morning of the procedure dropped to 1.1. Shot Lovanox that night after procedure and started with a 9 mg booster (per instructions) the morning after (I always take warfarin in the AM). Back on 6mg regular dose this morning. Last scheduled Lovanox shot is tomorrow morning.

My guess is your problem could be more related to the Lovenox than the warfarin. That's just my gut instinct, since Lovenox can cause just as much of a bleeding problem as warfarin. I've seen quite a few descriptions of such over the years.

My husband had a vasectomy 30+ years ago; I still remember the bruising he had -- w/out being on warfarin or an aspirin regimen. I had recently wondered how much bruising a vasectomy would produce in a warfarin patient.

Maybe I'll post a picture. :)

Kidding of course. Bleeding seems to have stopped this morning. I did call my cardiologists office last night. Good call on the Lovenox. They had me stop that and I'm going in for an INR this morning. Debating whether or not to go to work. I hate calling in when I feel fine. The only issue is the risk of bleeding. Pains pretty much done. I sit at a desk all day anyway.

Remembering my hubby's vasectomy, as well as the prostate surgery of a former co-worker: pack some ice/frozen peas in your drawers. I understand it helps with the pain. Hubby was uncomfortable about 3 days.

Yes, the bruising is spectacular. It's a very vascular area. No, we don't really want pictures.

And really, a 9 mg "booster" to restart? That's just going to flip your INR too high...after 3 days. I'm glad you are back on the regular dosage now.

Thanks for your contribution to Global Population Control.

Superman, you had mentionned eating a head of lettuce to reduce your bleeding....well, in this case that wouldn't
have worked anyway, because Lovenox is not controlled in the same way as warfarin. Fortunately you are stopping
the Lovenox since it does indeed promote some post surgical bleeding. The trick is to make sure that your INR is
now in a therapeutic range of 2.0 or higher, otherwise you may need another Lovenox shot. The INR can be checked
daily until it is in range but DON"T fiddle with the dose unnecessarily.

My husband was "neutered" about 16 years ago and his doc told him to sit on the couch and park a quart of cold beer
inbetween his legs. Yes, spectacular bruising. No, I don't have a picture.
Feel free to share a pic of your own though ;)

Did the doctor have a steady hand?
It may have nothing to do with Warfarin or
even Lovenox

Ross had some Serious Bleeding Issues after having his teeth pulled and being put back on Lovenox.

There is No Standard Protocol for Bridging.

Some Surgeons do NOT return to Lovenox after a procedure, but just start Coumadin that night, knowing that it will take 3 or 4 days to become fully effective.

Some weigh the Risk of Bleeding vs. the Risk of Stroke and wait 24 to 48 hours before restarting Lovenox. I'm beginning to think this may be the best 'compromise' with regards to resuming Lovenox.

Obviously, resuming Lovenox almost immediately after a surgical procedure seems to increase the risk of post-op bleeding.

Resurrecting my old thread. Turns out my procedure was about ten days too late. Welcomed number five yesterday! Healthy baby boy. 8 lbs., 5.5 oz; 19.5 in. Our fourth boy (first three were boys, followed by a girl, now another boy). Should be the last.

Wow, that's a really cool Christmas present. Congrats, enjoy !!
