I'm thinking that's a rumor, but I did hear something about Bina kissing goats!

Being a Texan, I gotta believe this guy...“I don’t see anything to justify this panic,” said Robert Krug, a flu researcher at the University of Texas in Austin. “From all the evidence, this doesn’t look like a particularly lethal virus. People need a little more perspective.”

A statement from the same article that really bothers me...
"It wasn’t SARS, it hasn’t yet been avian flu, and it may not be this strain of swine flu, they acknowledge, but one day it’s going to happen."

Maybe true, maybe not, but I can guarantee if they keep overreacting for every virus, there will come a time when nobody will listen, and then it will be dangerous.

Ross, 787 cases in a week just isn't enough for me yet. That's a tiny % of the population, and most were not even that sick. I've worked in a school where I've had over 50% of my class out with flu type symptoms and it wasn't raised to this level.

I'm beginning to think this was a ploy by Obama to give him an excuse for not getting the economy fixed as quickly as he said he would!!!!

It sounds like, from some of the posts in this thread, that we are already at that point.;):D

Careful, this could be construed as political and we have already been told to move away from that. But, then, I do tend to agree with you that this might be the case.;):D

Interestingly enough we have yet to have any confirmed cases in Australia. You would think if it was as bad as they said that someone from overseas would have brought infection to our shores by now. Of course this could all change in the coming week ..............

A 31-year old school teacher from Cameron County TX is now the first confirmed death in the US from the swin flu.

Judy Trunnell had just given birth to healthy baby; she was reported to have had other underlying health problems & by the time she sought medical treatment, it was too late!

So sad! :(

I think the danger is for the next autumn flu season when this virus may
come out of summer hibernation, theSpanish Flu acted un this way. And I
dont think I would be as worried if I didnt live in the city.

This is exactly the point I'm trying to get across to everyone. This particular round may not be that threatening, then it will go away and resurface with a whole new and uglier face then before. Don't underestimate these little devils. This thing has proven that it can spread rapidly. Is our science good enough to thwart and nastier virus then the one currently?

Ross, I gotta say that I love your Pollyanna nature! :D

The way I figure is I have to die of something, and when God decides it's my time, it's my time. I'm not going to do anything stupid to speed it up, but I'm also not going to live my life worrying.

In my opinion this is all hyperboll. During the regular flu season the cases spread faster & there are an average of 36,000 deaths a year. Have you all noticed 1 thing. This all started when they passed the 3.4 trillion dollar fiscal bill. Also, they passed a NEW AND IMPROVED health bill for members of Congress & their families. This is on top of the raise they gave themselves. IN THIS BAD ECONOMY OF ALL THINGS.

This is a classic case of the goverment saying; "Ok turn your head this way so we can screw you without you knowing it."

This of course could just be a Coincidence.

THERE ARE NEW STRAINS OF FLU EVERY YEAR!!!!

I thought the same thing TBone, but was trying to refrain from the political side of things! Glad you said it!

Except that I don't think the grieving families of those that have been claimed by this virus would see it this way. :(

The theory that the government is promoting cases of the swine flu to shift attention away from current fiscal policy is ludicrous. :p:p:p
Of course, that's only my opinion. ;)

This was just a simple observation. I'm sure the relatives wouldn't see it that way; however, I'm also sure they wouldn't see it that way if it was the common flu either.

Just on news here 2 cases 20 year old girl in Saskatoon
45 year old woman in Regina both are 1st cases in
Saskatchewan (remain mild) they report.

Think in Canada alone they said 213 cases could be more since
i listened to totals in Canada,so far mild accept for 5 year old
in Alberta, who was very ill, last heard is off the respritory machine
now and no further updates available.

I agree. Some idiots (oops, I mean, people - I didn't want to offend anyone) will look for reasons, no matter how ridiculous, to blame the new administration.

Let's see -- this particular strain of flu started in Mexico. Obviously, the Obama administration planted it there. It traveled inside infected people returning from Mexico. It's been to Canada, China, New Zealand, and dozens of other countries. Obviously, these reports are all false -- they're just reporting cases to help the U.S. Government pass spending bills.

It's about 95 degrees outside here in Southern California, and it's much cooler in New Jersey -- and it's all Obama's Fault!

Sometimes things like the flu just travel in the same way they did here - without any sinister plot driving them.

(This will probably prompt some of you -- you know who you are -- to keep this thread alive. You aren't going to change my opinion -- and I probably can't change yours, either. So should we bother with nasty messages back and forth? If you don't like what I said here, just e-mail me - that way, we won't tie up this thread any more than it has been)
While I don't think it's a diversion by the current administration - for those who thinks it's a ludicrous conjecture - I'll say - Welcome to the Party In Office Dump Pile, it goes with the territory. Everything was blamed on Bush the 8 last years - some ridiculous (9/11 - and yes - I actually have friends who think he planned it.) and some deserved. Now it's Obama's turn. You will eventually develope a tough skin.

On the other hand - I do think, in part, it's being played to the hilt because right now the media doesn't have a whole lot to report. An activist priest in Chicago hung an American flag upside down today (the sign of distress for ships or forts) because more Chicago public school children have died from gun violence this school year than people have died world wide from the Swine Flu. The papers report on each gun death for a day and then it is forgotten. We continually get bombarded with what "might be" the future of Swine Flu, when there are no signs that it's going the way the media is reporting it "might".

since this is still a political thread..
