Just to keep this going . . .

Two more inches of snow overnight; turned to light rain this morning; now it's foggy and the temp's going down and it's going to be icy. Yuk.

Y'know, we have things to do these days and I just don't like to drive when it's icy and the nuts are on the road.

Can I have some cheese with this? (no, of course not - got to watch that cholesterol)

It's Snow Fun!

It's Snow Fun!

Out here in the Blue Ridge Mountains, we're supposed to have sleet and a little snow after midnight tonight, changing to freezing rain most of the day tomorrow. Yuk! The snow is pretty but the ice is treacherous. We stay off the roads but can't even play ball with my yellow lab in the backyard because she can't get traction on the ice and I'm afraid she'll get hurt skidding into a tree.

Bring on pure snow. Enough with the ice!

I worry more about you..skidding into a tree. ..Remember Nancy's Joe fell last year on ice....Hurt himself pretty bad..Right Nance? Bonnie

Joe sure did hurt himself pretty badly. He was in the hospital for quite a while and then in rehab to learn how to walk again, and then had a walker at home, and then a cane. He was very fortunate that he didn't break anything or get a head bleed.

Go get some YakTrax or GettaGrips to put on your shoes. I swear by them. I wear the YakTrax when I walk the dog and our mailman who knows all about outside stuff in snow and ice wears GettaGrips.

I talked the policeman and the EMTs who came for Joe's accident into getting those things for their shoes. They were slipping all over the ice trying to help him and almost fell on him.

For ice driving going up or down hills, remember to put the car in a lower gear.

Hey, it was -4 degrees today. Now, that's way too cold this early on. That's snorkle hood weather and maybe even a ski mask, and adult snowpants for early morning walking the dog.

Even the dog wears boots and a coat.

But I'm all set. My coat and heavy duty boots are rated for -40.

Okay everyone, I'm new to this site (as of yesterday). I've read some great posts and you all seem to be an extremely friendly group of people so I thought I'd throw my two cents in about snow. I live in southern California and although we didn't get any snow today, it was cold...I had to wear a long-sleeved shirt. I knew you would all feel sorry for me.
Thanks for letting me be a part of your forum. And please don't take any offense to my reply...I have the feeling you all have a good sense of humor. FranR

uh oh, we got another one! Welcome, welcome, welcome! We need all the giggles we can get. I am in FLORIDA! and it's dang cold - course we are in the panhandle and that's the same as being up north (well, sorta). Heard from Ft Myers and it was 49 down there. (probably for only 5 minutes, tho).

What is snow?

It was -2˚ F this morning, and promises to be that or lower tomorrow. Fortunately, it got all the way up to over 20˚ F during the day today, albeit with some wind.

The ample birdseed supply placed out was entirely decimated by the time I got home. I put more out, and will up the amount tomorrow morning as well.

I have also broken out the emergency deer rations for a designated spot they pass in the nearby woods. The whitetails are a pain in the warm months, but I feel it isn't right for me to let them suffer when it's so easily within my power to help them.

Best wishes,

Bonnie,

I appreciate your concern, really do. I step pretty gingerly on these icy days and keep a walking stick or shovel in hand to try to maintain balance. I like to take long walks with my dog but we've had to suspend those til the thaw (much to Sadie's chagrin). I've gotten a new exercise bike for my basement to try to keep up my exercise through the winter.

Cheers,

Bob

And Nancy and Bonnie, I'll have to look into possibly getting some of those GettaGrips or Get-A-Grips.

They sound helpful... Besides, my wife is forever telling me I should get a grip. :D :D :D

I agree..all the crows, red birds, blue jays, squirrels, ect.all in front yard..looking for bird feed. hate to deny any of them..food. Will go back to store tomorrow and buy more....Just so cold for them.. and so early...in season....I try to save left-overs for crows and throw out my back..They are the same family that stays..I can see one every A.m. looking thru my window at me.........Just tells me..we are in for a bad winter. .Also, they are all at bird-bath for water.Frozen in A.M. but thaws by noon.....Thank goodness, it's not that many...bonnie

We got lucky on the ice storm..but, NOT for my kids. They live in Gainesville, Ga. Both lost power. Schools closed...Son has wood-burning fireplace and Daughter has gas logs...They will hunker down and camp in front of fireplace. Just saw the T.V. from Gainesville. Many trees down..Don't think there will be any schools again tomorrow. S/I/L..said, if they survived being in Russia with the 2 kids last winter..They will make it O.k. tonight.:p ......Funny how the pockets of cold hit different towns. Our schools were closed but not much ice......We are 30 miles North of Gainesville.. Yet, they got the blunt. Bonnie
