I am, I am, and my husband too. We were supposed to run the Wineglass with Cardiac Athletes last year until my husband was deployed.

Looking forward to meeting other VR members, Kodi is running the full marathon last I heard, Tom Price, not sure if he's relaying like we are or going the full monty. Sumo, are you going?

I got a great deal on plane tickets and rental car, we're going to visit family in Pittsburgh first (Nov 8), drive to Harrisburg early Saturday morning, run on Sunday, and fly back to Texas on Monday.

The best part of this trip is the marathon and relay is on my 3rd anniversary of OHS and I feel great! :smile2:

Harrisburg Marathon

Shhhh, our families are having a welcome home party for my husband on Veteran's Day; he doesn't know!:D

Well Kodi bowed out. I was planning on doing exactly what you were, visiting family in Pittsburgh then off to Harrisburg. I couldn't find and really good deals on airlines and with other things going on in my life I decided to stay home again. I will however be there in spirit and wishing I were there. Good luck on your training and race and congratulations on the anniversary. I ran my first post-op marathon one year and one day after surgery and what a feeling it was.

I am captaining a team this year. Home made wine is the beverage of choice for anyone on my team!
:)
Sorry you cannot make it Kodi....we had great fun at Akron! This year there is an international flavor as we have cardiac athletes coming in from the UK as well as Australia!

I wish I could. Every year I say the same and every year I have a conflict. The gathering seems to be getting farther out of reach each time. I missed Vermont City, the closest to me, then Jersey Shore and Wine Glass, each one a bit farther away than the previous.

Not this year as I just had my surgery 3 months ago, but will probably join up with the group next year.

Same for me. Sounds like a fun time, but I'm not running again yet (about 4 weeks post AVR right now). Just curious: how do the locations/events get chosen every year?

Congratulations on both of your successful surgeries. It doesn't get any better than this, I have been running again since 3 months post op. Not running as long or as much as I would like to right now. I've switched to running and weight workouts. I have noticed a greater improvement with my fitness overall since combining the two.

Do you both have a recovery goal? I think that is important, gives you something to work towards. Just listen to your bodies, don't push too soon.

Cardiac Athletes selects the races, I think it also has something to do with who would be able to coordinate the events at the location selected. A couple of years ago Tom Price put a post or email out to suggest cities to hold the events. He would be the best to guide us in this quest.

Sumo, are there any of these events that are close to you that maybe Cardiac Athletes is not aware of?

Ok Tom, who's sharing your wine? :wink2::wink2:

Consensus, nothing formal. First of all, it must have a team relay since very few want to do a whole 26.2, then when discussion begins people mention possibilities and of course, someone needs to step forward to make arrangements for hotel room rates and a pre-race meeting venue.

Close to me is not the issue. Close enough for several CA members is the point. If we had one in Albany or Havasu City, how many would we expect to see? Few I'm sure. This is just the annual US gathering. There have been many other medium sized and smaller ones.

The big ones so far were at Vermont City 07, Jersey Shore 08 and Wineglass 09 marathons.

Thanks! The cardiologist told me I should keep things easy and stick with my pre-op restrictions until the end of the year. The restrictions were "nothing too demanding and no more than 10 miles a day". My goal for the rest of the year is to work towards 50 mile weeks again. I hit 13 easy miles this week. Next year I want to spend the 1st part of the year getting back into 1/2 marathons and then target the Chicago Marathon in October. This marathon is important to me since I was all set to go in 2009 and went in for my "blessing" from the cardiologist. My condition had worsened to the point where a marathon was out of the question. It was tough news to take in, but it was the right decision. I still have my bib as a reminder in case I am ever lacking motivation to get out the door to go run. Of course I don't have that problem right now as I am just happy to be running again no matter how slow! Actually hit 4 miles this morning, which is the longest run since 2 days prior to my surgery.

Hi everyone: I had my second surgery in 5 years on Aug 3rd. I will be joining the VR/Cardiac Athlete Team in Harrisburg! I will probably
walk/run the last leg of the race. There is no way I would miss it. I have been to every Marathon Relay since we first began (Just 5 of us!!) in Vermont. These guys (and gals) are awesome!!! You will be guaranteed a good time and get to compare war stories. It's just the best...
Laura

First things first...I will have enough wine for everyone!
Now....we tend to select the race based on: having a relay or at least a half and a full marathon. Someone who can coordinate the event as far as publicity to runners, getting a host hotel, etc. We prevously had someone host the event, but that gets costly the bigger we get so now we all pay as we go. We are open to ANY suggestions. Also, if you have any chance to get to Harrisburg this year, you do not need to run, just come on over. The group is quite fun and we have people coming in from the UK and Australia!

Glad you are on the mend and are going to participate again. I know the one in Akron was so much fun. I'll be thinking about all of you.

Well, we have formed the teams for Harrisburg, and I have 2 GREAT runners from Austin on MY team!

I was thrilled when I received the email today. :D:D Go team! :biggrin2: Looking forward to meeting everyone in Harrisburg.

It is finally cooling down, great weather for morning runs. We ran 5 miles, temp in the high 70s, my time was 46:22, about a 9:15 minute mile.

We bought new running shoes today too.

Well, ran 4 miles yesterday--no land speed records just a nice 12 minute mile pace keeping my heart rate in Zone one training as directed by my Cardiac rehab nurse buddy(who is also an 8 times Boston Marathon finisher) I feel good and almost want to knock wood every time I finish a run. I haven't felt this good in 7 years--the difference the right sized valve makes....Looking forward to seeeing you all!!!!

Congrats on another good run! Laura, it makes me feel like I want to ask Edwards to make me a bigger valve!!!
