yes, it can take me forever to respond.... Marguerite, my kids are weird....they actually love the gorge, Hood River and Portland in the warm summer as long as they don't have to live there!?!?! The funny part is if you ask them where they call home they say The Dalles but again they say despite grandma and grandpa they wouldn't want to live there!?!?! My oldest daughter's current favorite connection to Oregon is her drivers permit. She can't use it in Maryland yet but she likes to show it to her friends who are still too young here.

Kirkwood, MO
Cape Girardeau, MO

Al, if you see this, did you ever meet an Ian Sutherland while in Vietnam
?

No, sorry, I did not.

My parents used to sort of live in Kirkwood. They lived on Grant Ridge Ln off Grant Road. The city limits line between Webster Groves and Kirkwood ran right through their house. They had two Zip Codes and had to call both fire and police departments when they had an emergency because neither city could agree on which one they lived in. Some of their taxes went to one city and some went to another because one used the electric meter to determine residency and the other used water meters. Of course they were in different cities. They had library cards in one city and my brother went to high school in the other.

That's funny, Al. Where did your brother go to high school? I know where you lived. We lived one block off Kirkwood Rd (on E. Washington) but we had relatives in Webster. We visited St. Louis last week-end, and went back to the old neighborhood via Webster Groves. It still looks amazingly the same, except they have private businesses inhabiting the older homes in the area. They have done a good job at preserving the small town feeling of the neighborhoods.

Milwaukee, WI - childhood
Madison, WI - college
Pittsburgh, PA
Washington D.C. Metro Area

I never lived there just visited.

I think he went to Webster Groves High - graduated about 1967.

Al,

Given the dates, I doubt you'd know anyone I know. Not sure about my folks ... I'll have to check dates with them. Ah, well ... thought another connection might be made.

;)

Civilian:
San Antonio, TX
Refugio, TX
Denton, TX
Midland, TX
Arlington, TX (for a long time now and, unfortunately, still here)

Military:
Ft. Hood, TX (dustbowl or mudpit - nothing in between)
Ft. Jackson, SC (lots and lots of red dirt - never could get those stains out; course low crawling in it on a daily basis didn't help any)
Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN (too much brass - might as well just have stayed at attention, saluting, just to be on the safe side; old finance center; saw the parade field A LOT)
Ft. Polk, LA (armpit of the army; skeeters, snakes, and swamps)
Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD (my fav - right there on the Chesapeake Bay and tons of places to go sightsee - and I was commissioned by then - might have made a slight difference.......heehee!)

Surgical:
As many times as we have been there, I almost feel like we "lived" in Ann Arbor, MI, especially during our last surgical adventure. I was beginning to think we would never get to head back south......................sigh!

I'm a navy brat...

Straight outta Lynwood (CA) here, just like Weird Al Yankovic (who graduated with my older brother). Lived there my first 13 years, now in Downey, CA, home to the Carpenters, one of the oldest-standing McDonald's, and the recent Founder's Award Rose Float.

He he....a friend of mine from college is a HUGE Weird Al fan. In fact, his radio show on the college radio station was called "The Wierd Al Wannabees" ... he he he.
