It's been a long times since I posted. I have been so busy and have very little time to spend online, unlike my post surgery days where I was a regular. At the end of the month I will have my one year OHS anniversary. I feel wonderful and my latest echo showed my EF at 55 with normal heart function. Hooray! The best news of all is that we are expecting another baby. Our girls (age 6 and 5) are sooo excited. I also have a two year old son so this will be kid #4. Since I have a tissue valve I expect to have very little trouble with this pregnancy though strangely enough they are making me deliver with a perinatolgist (high risk OB). There is some debate over wether I should be taking a very mild dose of Heparin as pregnancy produces a hyper-coagulating state in the body. My cardio thinks thats nuts and that I do not need heparin. Anyway, I just wanted to post this just in case there was someone in there childbearing years out there who is intrested (as I was) in learning about having babies after OHS. I hope to have a very uneventful pregnancy with very little to report. I am almost out of my first trimester and baby is due in Oct.
Hope you are all well!

Hi Janea,

THIS is certainly proof that LIFE DOES GO ON after OHS!!!! BIG hugs and congratulations to you all. Now we have to start "mother henning" you and make sure you're getting enough rest and taking care of yourself. Please keep us posted throughout. I am so excited for you!!!:D :D :D :D

Wonderful news. I seem to be surrounded by pregnant women these days. 2 woman at work, a couple neighbors and friends. Must be something in the water.;) ;)

Praying that all continues to go well and sending cyber hugs to you and your family.

Congratulations, Janea and best wishes for a wonderful and uneventful pregnancy. Looking forward to hearing all good news and sharing in your joy.

Janea,

Congradulations!!! What a blessing children are. I wish you all the best with your bundle of joy.

Congratulations!!!! Another VR baby! I wish you a very healthy pregnancy!

Wishing you all the best, Janea!! Please keep us posted on your experience....it is very good reading for young women who have this hope in their hearts. I'm not sure I would be as brave as you! But then, my OHS was at age 52 and my 3 are now all young adults. 3 was my maximum wish!! wow, 4!!!! Did I ever have that much energy?? :p You GO, woman!!!

Fantastic news! Marguerite

Congratualtions!

I agree with your cardiologist. I believe there may be confusion here as to the concerns associated with different types of valves.

Also, heparin is not good long-term, as your body eventually realizes it's been tricked, and can overcome its action, or you can have a backlash of greater stroke danger after a while. Look for heparin in the site's search facility.

Best wishes,

Hi Janea - What exciting news! Congratulations and may all go well!

(edit - I was just telling my husband about your news. Then I remembered that, six months after my husband and I married, I became pregnant and it was just about a year after I had my first heart surgery, which was not valve replacement but rather aorta repair with partial replacement. I was young then but I didn't have a bit of problem with the pregnancy or delivery. That firstborn son is nearly 26 years old now! Again, may all go well!)

Hi Janea and congrats! Yes, you are an inspiration. I just had a repair 9 days ago and am wondering whether this was God's sign to try again (I have an 8 yr old daugther but have had 2 miscarries since she was born-- they believe due to antiphospholipid antibody syndrome-- so heparin would be involved in my future pregnancies for sure). I'll give this repair time to take and jump back in the game.

God bless. I'll be waiting to see details!
