Wendy just called me, from the ambulance, today was Andrews first day of school and he collapsed, they had to shock him, and he did wake up, but now is on the way to the ICU. Luckily Wendy works at the school Andrew goes to so she was able to get to him quickly. I will update as I hear anything, Andrew is I believe 15 and has his valve replaced a month or so ago
here is a link to his carepage I know most people are registered since they checked Katies but if not, you have to register once, http://www.carepages.com/ServeCarePage?cpn=AndrewJosephspage&seed=166039 Lyn

I'm praying that Andrew will be ok. I remember Wendy was worried about his participating in gym class. I hope he didn't get overheated whatever the cause.
I will check the carepage, but won't you have news sooner than what's posted there?
Thanks for letting us know so quickly--
Mary

Wendy isn't sure when she will be able to get to a computer at the hospital, but will update the page as soon as she can. I'll be talking to her tonight hopefully. I had given her my number when Andrew was having his surgery since he is close to Justin's age and we talked for years and luckily when she was in the ambulance she remeberred it was in her cell phone and asked me to tell the groups we are in. so anything I hear I'll let you know
from what I understand (it was hard to talk w/ the sirens blaring and on a cell phone) it was lunch break and he was playing basketball w/ some kids. she said the ride to the hospital would be about 45 min, Lyn

Sending all our prayers and best wishes to Andrew and his family.

I will be keeping Andrew in my prayers. Will check his carepage, but please let us know as soon as you hear somthing.

So sorry to hear of the problems. I will start praying right now. Please let us know of any updates.

Prayers on the way, this is the stuff we all do not want to hear....

We are at Children's now. He was transported by ambulance from a local hospital. He passed out on the black top during recess and had the AED used on him. Thank God we had one available. The paramedics think it may have saved his life! I am grateful that if it ahd to happen it happened there and not at home or out where there wasn't one available.

Thank you Lyn for posting for me and letting everyone on the boards know. I just talked to one of Andrew's cardiologists (Dr. TSO) and she says they want to do another cath and EP study. There is a likely chance we will start him back on the Amerdiorone (I am sure I spelled that wrong) and there is a chance we might be looking at implanting a defibulator. This is all prelimenary at this point. We are waiting on an echo. Randy just came in and said they are starting that.

Guess i will go and see how he looks. I will do my best to keep you informed. He looks good right now. Keep praying though.

thanks ,
Wendy

I didn't remember the details of Andrew's situation so I did a search for ANDREW and found the following from 1 week ago under Wendy's screen name Cocoalab:

"The one dissapointment for Andrew (from his checkup last week) is his restriction from gym at
least until his next visit and another holter is done, because he had
that ventricular tachycardia during surgery. I also am concerned
about how good his ventricle function is. He will hopefully be
starting cardiac rehab in the near future. His pc just really
doesn't want him having medically unsupervised exercize yet.
Hopefully they will be able to find some place around home to do
this. (Wendy)

SNIP

(and a second note that his REAL dissapointment was that he would not be able to play on his high school varsity basketball team...SO, he plays basketball at lunch on his first day back to school and ... gets a ride to the hospital after collapsing...)

AH, the joys of parenting (invincible) teenagers!

I hope this 'reminder' convinces Andrew to listen to his doctor(s) and follow their directions until he recovers fully. My sympathy to Wendy. - 'AL Capshaw'

I'm sorry to hear that they are considering Amiodarone.

That is the SLEDGE HAMMER of anti-arrhythmatic medications and has several SERIOUS side effects if taken over a long period of time. I have told my cardiologist that I want to exhaust ALL other options before going on amiodarone. Get and read a copy of the Information Sheet on Amiodarone and then discuss this with his doctors.

It sounds like he needs another Electrophysiology study and IF the results justify, a pacemaker and/or defibrilator to act as a safety net. This would be a GOOD thing.

Hope they are able to get some clear answers soon.

God bless Andrew!!

God bless Andrew!!

Wendy, I am so sorry for what you are going through; it is terribly hard to see a child ill! I am praying for wisdom for Andrew's doctors, that they will zero in on the right tests and the correct way to go. And of course I am praying for you and Andrew. God bless!
