Hi,

Sorry to have been offline, but we were busy this week. Andie has now managed to walk several hundred feet daily, sometimes 100 feet at a time--a brief rest, then back up on her feet again. She eats and drinks standing up. Most importantly she was able to climb up steps unassisted, and almost ran down the steps when I sprayed her leg sore. She did not stumble even a little on the way down and continued walking after she reached the ground. She still wears the Elizabethian collar much of the time due to her persistent desire to lick open the scab on her right thigh, but she eats well and has resumed almost normal watchdog activities. She no longer sleeps in the truck, but now by the back door--something I like, since it's appropriate for watchdogs to do that. When she was younger she never would stick around the yard, but now she does. It seems that every day her posture gets better and she puts on a tiny bit more weight. She isn't her old self yet, but she's a whole lot better than two weeks ago. Thanks again for the prayers and support.

I'm delighted that Andie is making progress. It's really good to have an animal story that is working out well for a change. We've had so many sad ones over the last few months.

Another update:

Andie continues to improve. She doesn't quite run yet, but her walk is much more stable looking. She goes all over the place, and, while wearing that collar (we left it off for a bit and she licked a fresh hole in her skin) she got into our neighbor's corrals, but couldn't get out. At least the cows weren't there. I had to cut a rope, undo a chain, and open the gate latch to get her back. She was a bit yucky, but otherwise fine.

The past few days, she finally has returned to the dog yard for several hours each day. I tie up the buck goat so he doesn't do his disgusting version of 'courting' her. Also hook her up on the lawn to a cable so she would get some sunshine and quiet, while we would be gone. When we're home she's free to wander about. She has resumed searching out and eating misplaced and hidden nests of chicken eggs--so far she leaves the main chicken house alone. Her coat is already getting darker and shinier. Also annoying, but cute in its own peculiar way, she roots through the chicken scraps bucket on the deck. Even now, while I was typing this, she just finished messing around with the potato peelings in that bucket. She's up and down the deck every few minutes, and her stride is longer and better. As for the dead voles the cats don't finish, they're all gone now. I guess she thinks voles taste like lemmings--Yum! Yum!

She's even begun to be fussy about her wet and dry dog food--I guess her 'snacks' have been rather filling.

No running yet, but she's getting closer every day. Thanks again for the prayers and support. I'll keep everyone updated.
