I don't really get the fright of Coumadin. My husband was on it for over 30 years. It had the fewest side effects of ANY of the other medications he ever had. And in his younger days, he wasn't just sitting around doing nothing, he was active and very, very athletic.

The things that are being bandied about here, regarding Coumadin, are just not what my husband experienced. It is becoming an unbalanced point of view, and not correct in many ways. I think things have to get back to real life experiences, not what someone read or was told by a medical professional who didn't have proper knowledge of the medication.

It is too bad that Al Lodwick is now retired, he would have made things very clear and they would have been right on the money.

If it helps anyone reading, Al Lodwick taught us most everything we know. He was a Certified Anticoagulation expert and Pharmacist. He spent up until last fall, touring the U.S. giving seminars to the medical professionals.

Just a quick search, I found one of his medical papers you can download and read:

I prescribe warfarin for more than 20 years in the anticoagulant clinic where I work and every day I see new patients starting anticoagulant therapy: I have never seen skin necrosis.

Skin necrosis can be seen only in the early days of anticoagulant therapy because of the short life of protein C.
