Dennis, I understand where you're coming from. The term "compliant patient" does have the ring of someone who just sits there and keeps their mouth shut and salutes. I'm giving my doc the benefit of the doubt...at least for the time being. I think/hope he meant that "compliant" meant taking my coumadin and testing properly. Hopefully, he realized from the "conversations" that I had with his nurses and staff that I'm not one to sit by and keep my mouth shut when I feel that what I'm being told is a lot of baloney. I will listen to anyone's opinion and thoughts, and I expect my doctor to listen to mine. I guess you know it's time to find another doc when you see that your doctor is just too threatened to think that a patient may actually have some insight into their own condition and treatment. I agree 100% with what you are saying. Being compliant may mean different things to different people in different situations. And I think I should have mentioned, as you did, that if you don't have confidence in your doctor the real solution is to get a different one. I was positive it was time for my AVR, but my cardiologist seemed to think I was in "panic mode". After I finally got rid of him, the new cardiologist agreed I needed the surgery ASAP. The surgical findings confirmed the second opinion was correct. Changing doctors may have saved my life.

Dennis, you were right to listen to that inner voice and get that second opinion. If I'm uncomfortable with what a doctor is telling me, I'm not going to not seek out someone else's opinion for fear of hurting the first doctor's ego or feelings. And any doctor that is comfortable with what he is suggesting to you wouldn't have his ego hurt. LINDA
