After my surgery for replacement of the aortic valve I made sure my V pillow was brought in to the hospital for me to use... we call them V pillows down here in Australia. I found it really marvelous and very supportive for my back. I used it for a time when I returned home but can't remember for how long. I always use it when I am reading in bed at night now but sleep with a normal feather pillow. You might know what I mean, it is a pillow shaped like a V .... thought I would share this with everyone .... I was also given a small red heart shaped pillow which I used to cough into ...it supported my chest and as you probably know the coughing helps clear the lungs ....cheers Elise

Hello, Elise. And welcome to our community (I missed out posting on your hello thread!)

That is good information and I wonder if there is a website which sells the pillow you mention so that we can all be clear on your recommendation.

I am almost 7 weeks post op and my "surgery buddy", the VR.com member who had surgery closest to me, was Aussigal who is from Perth. Please be sure to connect with her as who knows!! You may be neighbors!! I have no idea how large Perth is. Tonia had a very serious time of things, but she is on the mend and hasn't lost any of her lovely and lovable spirit!!

Again, thanks for joining us. I'm sure your contributions will be quite valuable to those who are waiting to have their surgery. I wouldn't have been able to endure the wait were it not for this fine group.

Hi Marguerite... yes Ton is on our site here called Heartnet and she mentioned this site which is great also. We live in Perth which is the capital of Western Australia one of the most isolated capital cities in the world but also one of the most beautiful. I grew up in the Eastern States in my case it was in New South Wales in a place called Cronulla but I have llived here in the West for thirty years now and love it. I will catch up with Ton in the future and yes you are right she has had a hard time. Not sure about sites for the pillow as we can go into any shop here that sells pillows and buy one...but they must be around I am sure and I must say it was a blessing for me .... have a good day/evening...cheers Elise

not sure if this is helpful, but there exists a foam store here:
http://www.efoamstore.com/shopcart2/default.asp?id=5
that sells varius shape foam wedges for supporting you in an inclined position.

they're a bit spendy for me, but i managed to find an independent matress shop here in oakland, ca that sells foam wedges as back supports. they're about $28 per and look like they'll fit the bill. maybe you can find one where you live?
