quick update...Pulmonary pressure is down a little but is still high at about 53/30. He is in good hands between the Lord & his ICU nurse who says he has been working ICU for about 13 years.
I will be fixing up a little something here on the waiting room floor & trying to get a little rest. Next visitation is at 5am...

My son had low blood pressure and hi pressures when he came out of surgery. Glad things are looking a little better, sending hugs prayers and best wishes, hoping for a happy up-date.

Just had our 5am visit with dad...he is still sedated & holding his own, but his pulmonary artery pressure is still high. It really has not changed since we seen him last, it is still holding low 50's / 30...from what I understand it should be down around 15/5 or so...alot lower!
Hopefully the surgeon will be back first thing this morning & we can get a little more info...

Had another visit with dad at 10am...his pulmonary artery pressure is still high but they are starting to let him wake up. He acknowledged our presence, squeezed our hands & was trying to talk which we kept telling him not to do since he is still on the breathing machine. Hopefully when we see him at 1, they will have him off the machine & awake more.
We did figure out he was trying to complain about laying on his back so the nurses rolled him over to his side. The pulmonary specialist is supposed to come in sometime this morning & hopefully we will know more later pretty soon!

OK, hang in there. This is going to be a slow process. But at least he acknowledged you being there. I know the waiting must be awful, so just keep a positive attitude and I will keep praying from my end.

Our latest visit was at 1pm. Dad is fully awake now but still on the vent. They are weaning him off it slowly since he is having problems with the P.artery pressure. Hopefully he will be off the vent shortly. I hate seeing him awake and still being on it Although his main complaint from what we can tell is that his nose is stopped up, but I am thinking the tube for the vent is probably blocking his nasal airway giving him the impression that his nose is stopped up.
Evidently he is in no pain. We asked him if he was in pain, & he shook his head no so they are managing that pretty well.
Next visit is at 5pm but I will not see him again until the 9pm visit. I have class starting at 430 & he would beat my @#$ if I missed class because of him!

One thing that really has me boiling pretty good is the fact that his surgeon & a pulmonary specialist have consulted & seen him this morning but both have failed to come out here & tell us anything!
Well that sucks... Is someone from your family there though out the day? Maybe have the ICU nurse make a note in his chart that family is in the waiting room cause some times those doctor's don't bother to find out. My husband went through an entire angioplasty and the silly doctor never came out to the waiting room. After about 6 hours I started asking what the heck was going on? They finally discovered that he had been taken back to the recovery area and no one said a word. Then the half-wits asked me if I wanted to sit with him? I wanted to say "No you morons, I've been hanging around here cause I had nothing else to do"
Ah well, I shall again take a quiet moment and ask the Lord to send down some of his angels to stay with your dad and give him support.

The surgeon/specialist might have left notes or a word with nurse in charge.
Ask the nurses to check the computer or his file.

I'm glad that he is still doing ok, hopefully he will have the tube out by the time you get back. You need to make sure that the nurse notes that ya'll want to see the Dr. in the am when he comes in. With him being in ICU, you won't be by his side when he makes rounds like you can be when he is on the floor. I must say, this is one thing that was very nice about St. Mary's at the Mayo Clinic... my husband was allowed to be by my bedside as much as he wanted when I was in ICU, even 3:00 am if it floated his boat.

Mass General is like that as well. DH could call and come at will and they were as wonderful to him as they were in taking care of me. First visit with him after each surgery, he was with another family member who stayed with him both times and they were great about allowing that person to come see me with DH.
It gave me tremendous comfort and I guess that is the point.

My mom, aunt & uncle have been here most of the time (all the time other than overnight), me & my sister have been here the WHOLE time...we even spent the night last night just in case.
I got a text message while I was in class that my family went in at the 5pm visitation & he was off the vent, talking & coughing up stuff like he should. He is back to his old self questioning the way the nurses are doing stuff! LOL!
The pulmonary pressure is still too high & we have yet to get any answers...I would love to know what they think is causing it, How it will affect his recovery, etc. etc.etc. I will be returning to work in the morning but my mom & sister will be back up here all day. We will leave word in ICU that a doctor needs to visit the waiting room & answer a few questions!

He is off the vent and talking....that is great progress right there! Best wishes.
So great to hear that after the worries of yesterday he is now off the vent and talking - hope those doctors give you some answers soon ....

Sounds like he's heading in the right direction. Hopefully they'll get his pressures down to where they're supposed to be. Sending best wishes to you all....
