Alex, for what it is worth I had my surgery at 29, about a year and a half ago. I got the mechanical valve and have had no problems with the warfarin. I too lead an active lifestyle, biking, sports, skiing, etc. I was worried at first but as some have stated above those worries have not come to fruition. I find that cuts take a little longer to clot but nothing totally out of the ordinary.
Though I am grateful for the surgery I am glad my doctor insisted on the mechanical valve as I would really not want to go through it again.
