They don't buy them, they get given them during their military service. The ban on buying fully automatic weapons is to prevent non-citizens from accessing them.
Switzerland had no obligation to comply with EU gun restrictions, because it's not a part of that huge bureaucratic monstrosity, but hey, they did it anyway.
"10% of Swiss households containing handguns, and 29% containing any type of firearm" I'm not talking about handguns, I'm talking about rifles.
"and 29% containing any type of firearm". It HAS to be higher than that, amongst Swiss male citizens. It's an obligation, not an option.
"passing an examination proving both weapon handling skills and knowledge regarding lawful use of the weapon" They do this in the Army (no Navy lol). It's all about firearms safety and education, which is fair enough. Everyone who owns a weapon should know how to use it. Those idiots that leave them laying around young kids need a good kicking. We lock up the kitchen knives after all, out of reach of toddlers. Stupidity is indeed real.
"The most recent suggestion for tighter gun control was rejected in a popular referendum in February 2011." Notice, they had a REFERENDUM. The people decided; rightly, or wrongly. They didn't have it thrust down their throats.
Yes, very different from the US. I totally agree. But my point was, that despite their access to them they don't have the 'social problems' your country has. But, that's going to change very soon. Watch the news.
You're going to get us into trouble again.
